Hi guys!!! My husband naturalized a year or two ago, and when he did he dropped one of his two last names. He has an updated identification card and everything else, but we are selling our house and we realize that the deed is in his old last name. I have searched through my records to look and see if I have any documents pertaining to the name change, but I don’t. Does anybody else have a better memory or are maybe are you going through this now? What document can I look for that would talk about the name change? Thanks!

DId you keep a copy of the application for naturalization showing you asked for name change at the oath ceremony?

That’s a good thought!!!! I’m going to look again. I’m finding all the original k1 packet copies but not the more recent documentation. 😭

Its called USCIS form N-662 (Petition for name change) document. You can get a certified copy of that document from the court which approved your husband name change.

Depending on the state, you can even search online the name change document and then apply for a certified copy.

We requested the change while filing the n400.   I found a copy of the form and I don't see n-662,  just the section on the n400.

So I found the copy of that document, but I don't see the certificate my husband supposedly would've received when he took his oath.  I have no recollection of anything except the naturalization certificate.  The original reason we needed this has passed, but now we need it to renew our daughter's passport.

So does it show a name change of the naturalization document as it would if approved?

If USCIS grants your application for citizenship, you can change your name if you attend a naturalization swearing-in ceremony in court. You will get a certificate to show that your name was legally changed, and the correct name will appear on your Certificate of Naturalization.Apr 8, 2019

Yeah, we do not have record of anything but the naturalization certificate. We messaged USCIS. I guess we will see what happens. Thanks!
