I think that's a fair point. But if they were/are, why not include shots of that as well? Were they excluded because they weren't awful enough to prove a point?

I’m betting they didn’t use multiple blocks because the effort and expense of shutting down such an area in order to do a photo shoot would have been much greater.  It’s not like they could shoot it without protection.

Well I think I've talked about the craziness that goes on in this town before. It's solidly red and always has been, the state rep is a joke that constantly gets re-elected even though he really doesn't even live here or have anything to do with this county. The election is currently tied up in the court system because of voter fraud - not on the part of the voters, but of officials doing sneaky things with ballot and of election fraud where there's a long paper trail of shady dealings. It's R vs R in this case and it doesn't even matter if one of them loses in the court based on cheating, because of some messed up laws the head of the GOP for this town gets to pick the winner, and they are just fine with cheating. One of them is probably going to jail eventually. Terrible schools, terrible crime, terrible poverty.

It could be just my tired old brain, but I could have sworn from conversations past that you live in Baltimore, or at least talk about crime and conditions there a lot.  And Baltimore is VERY liberal so you must be talking about a new city since you say it is solidly red.

So does it change their stories in any way?  Do you feel like they are insignificant because I know them, as opposed to some random people in a news article online?

Knowing that you know them gives me context, and makes me tend to believe they are true. That's the context I'm talking about, and again, thanks for the clarification. :)

Most welcome.  Like I said, I have no reason to make stories up to share on here.  There would be no point in that.

I was born and raised in Baltimore. Quite a few years ago we packed up because of the violence, and moved out to a far away rural place from hell, where I think politicians here are even more content to let this town rot. Still have a deep love for the city and I have to say that even though most people hear about the bad stuff, there is much beauty to be found. I still love coming back there.

I have no idea who these people are, or what they're saying is true. Completely meaningless without context. You could say, oh, these are my friends telling me this, and honestly that would have as much weight as my claims. But without anything more than "trust me these are real," why should we believe you?

They are anectdotal, I heard ? I read, I saw. They are there to give contrast to some of the bias that is there, these stories come from both sides. They are not being shoved down your throat and often have come from someone’s opinion and bias

VOR and I have already hashed it out and we're good now. I asked for context and he gave it to me, after I'd given him context for the report I had. Previously they just seemed like text floating out there without attribution.

Thanks for demonstrating that it’s possible to comprehend, and perhaps even have empathy for, someone’s life story without knowing who they are.

Hey, I have been meaning to ask you a serious question. What do you think of Kimberly Klacik, do you live in that district, and do you plan on voting for her?

Never been a city person, never could get used to the smell, and the lack of green and space.  Getting ready to drive out to Yellowstone in a few days and the drive through WI, MN, SD and WY excites me more than anything a city can provide.

No, because I no longer live in Baltimore and I grew up mainly in the 2nd, 3rd districts - where some of my family were in the 7th. I don't know of anyone still in Baltimore that would intend on voting for her (they wouldn't vote for Mfume either). Like I said though she is not a Baltimore native, and only moved in recently. She does not even live currently in the district she is running for. These two points completely shred anything else she's offering for someone that might potentially look at her. She barely has the support of the GOP, I suspect for some libertarian ideas.

MD has some of the most heavily gerrymandered districts in the United States. It is strongly intended to favor D's every time, however you cannot overlook the heavily gerrymandered 1st district for R's which literally encompass half of the state and run by a flakey guy who doesn't live there and cares nothing about rural issues or even some of the infrastructure and violent crime issues we have. We really don't like voting for people that don't even live here or understand issues particular to the area.

I always love driving back into Baltimore - that skyline is so nice really. It took a lot of people believing in the potential of what we could be to remove the blight and make that skyline what it is today. Museums, green space, food, and culture is good. Best healthcare. People are friendly. Architecture, even in the run down places can make you feel sad, because these were once amazing places that deserve to be restored for housing instead of torn down. I miss the sound of the church bells every day and the trains. Used to be able to walk to everything when it was safe at least. The crime, drugs, slumlords/blight, and school system is the problem.

Don't get me wrong, I like the rural views - but blight and crime is now running rampant here and things get old really quick. You have to drive for miles for everything. People are not friendly. Everything requires going into another state or town. There is racism and extreme homelessness. We both like traveling, and I could see ourselves getting an RV and visiting all the national parks someday. But we're both happiest at the beach and we might be moving that way soon.
