True stories from democrat-run cities that illustrate our sad state of affairs

This just happened two days ago, at the Walgreens on Polk Street, behind my hotel in SF. For starters, it's all boarded up. But there's a sign on the door stating they're open. I go in to get a couple of bottles of water. 

The store had maybe ten people in there, and a handful of employees. As I grab my water from the cooler and walk toward the front, a young black kid between 20 and 25, with a backpack and earpods nonchalantly walks into the same aisle. He looks at me, sort of watching. I didn't think much of it, until I see a disheveled, middle-aged Asian employee is watching this kid. At this point, I figure he's watching to see if this guy is going to shoplift. 

The black kid walks toward the front as I'm pretending to browse, and the employee says, in broken English, "You gonna pay for that stuff in your bag? The police are outside." No effect. He tries again. The kid simply walks out. I felt terrible for the employee/manager. This must happen with great frequency at this location. And yet, there will be no punishment for this thief. The elected officials have chosen their side. 

How long will it be before we go from allowing petty crimes a pass to allowing murder?

 

 

I remember @laylalex trying to convince me that NYC is not really all boarded up and having problems returning to normal.  Perhaps if we listen to the people who actually LIVE there, as opposed to the MSM, we will learn the truth.

These cities that refuse to prosecute anyone for destroying businesses certainly do not practice the broken windows theory (BWT) of policing.  It really appears that what we are seeing now is the proof that the opposite of the BWT does not work, but I doubt the urban planners and social scientists that study this kind of stuff will ever admit it.

I'm sorry, I didn't know asking my friends who LIVE IN NYC counts as listening to the mainstream media. Also, when did SF become NYC?

 

And again, I'm sorry, where do these stories come from? Can you provide a link or two here? Otherwise I have no idea whose voices I'm supposed to listen to.

They come from people actually LIVING there (or at least staying in a hotel, in the case of SF).  You don't need to know whose voices they are to understand the root cause of the problems.

It's not clear who is speaking in your quotes. Is this brother in law in Queens or are you documenting someone else's experience?

I think it is sufficiently clear.  It is affecting members of  "we the people".

No, it's not clear. The background and experience of the people is not called out. 

We don't even know the geography of these supposed incidents. Just saying Queens or SF is a broad set of neighborhoods and experiences.

 

This might as well be a fictional account.

Then ignore them. Their lives are ruined, not yours.  Nothing needs to be called out except how the poor decisions of democratic leaders are ruining people and cities.

 

The geography is Queens and somewhere in SF.

I have no idea who these people are, or what they're saying is true. Completely meaningless without context. You could say, oh, these are my friends telling me this, and honestly that would have as much weight as my claims. But without anything more than "trust me these are real," why should we believe you?

Should I tell some tales from my Republican-lead town filled with scum, drugs, homeless, murder, and free rapists on a daily basis to even things out? You'd think I still lived in B'more sometimes... and sometimes I still felt safer there. Poor decision making/running/planning isn't exclusive to one party.

Because I have never lied to you, and there is no reason for me to make this stuff up.  You don't know these people, so even if I were to give you their names and addresses, it would change nothing about the things they are experiencing.  Just because Media Matters isn't reporting it doesn't make it any less real for these people.

Sure, share your stories.  I agree, most progressive planning is or becomes disastrous.
