This is what I got from Montreal (Montreal-IV-DV@state.gov)when I emailed them. Perhaps if all of us who are waiting at NVC email them non-stop, then that would put some pressure on them? I work with the city a lot and they always address the loudest ones first...just a thought.InkedMontreal_LI.thumb.jpg.b4caafc8e8ebb6c32cdd442ec934b5ac.jpg

I'm down if we don't hear anything next week. We've been waiting since Dec 2019 and haven't emailed them yet, I think it's time. What did you ask to get this response?

Here's what I wrote. I first got a generic response and the above response came second which I wasn't even expecting. And yes please you should. I've been waiting for you to get your letter like forever. I need to see a light at the end of the tunnel before Dec.

Update on this. I've received my green card in the mail, 105 days after crossing the border. The visa stamp in my passport was for a CR-1 (even though I crossed the border 2 years after my marriage) so I pre-emptively submitted an i-90 application requesting a new green card with the reason being the visa category was incorrect. When the green card arrived in the mail, it was under the IR-1 category and good for 10 years which I'm very happy about (so I never had to do anything? Not sure if i-90 helped correct my category) . I've now sent a message to USCIS to withdraw the I-90 application which is still open.

As an aside, I had requested that a SIN card be mailed to me after entry (supposedly in 3 weeks). They didn't do this though and so I had to go into the social security office and fill out a form to get it printed. They sent me my card within the week.

For those on the journey, good luck!

I’m waiting to see what next week brings us before getting super loud!!! I will email the consulate as well.

Same. I have a draft written up but I’m going to wait to see what happens next week before sending it. I was already getting nervous but the recent K1 interview and now this response from the consulate (even if it is technically from last month) has left me feeling worse 😕

@chefcurry88 What did you have to do to get an appointment at a social security office?

Read the FAQ; this is in there:

Is ______ a good reason to expedite?
Montreal is a strict consulate in terms of approving expedites and they are not commonly granted. That being said, the following are reasons that USCIS may accept for an expedite:

USCIS may consider expediting a benefit request if it meets one or more of the following criteria:

  • Severe financial loss to a company or person, provided that the need for urgent action is not the result of the petitioner’s of applicant’s failure: (1) to file the benefit request or the request to expedite in a reasonable time frame; or (2) to respond to any requests for additional evidence in a reasonably timely manner;

  • Urgent humanitarian reasons;

  • Compelling U.S. Government interests (such as urgent cases for the Department of Defense or DHS, or other public safety or national security interests); of

  • Clear USCIS error.

I requested an expedite, how long will it take to hear back?

It depends. Some users have heard back in as little as 5-10 days, others have had to wait 3 weeks. Montreal is not liberal with allowing expedites though, so unless it is life or death it will likely be denied.

Do you think they care about their own u.s. citizens feeling stranded in Canada due to wait time for their spouses? My case is a bit different. I am the u.s. citizen and my son is also u.s. citizen. I am also going through a medical treatment for which my husband and I need to stay together. So basically I am starting to feel stranded because of u.s. Canada border restrictions due to COVID. I am unable to accept any job offers in the U.S. anymore due to this situation. It's crazy. So the question is...I understand that the consulate only gives expedite if it's a life or death situations but in situations where their own U.S. citizens are feeling stranded in another country, do you think they could consider? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Any one else pregnant?? I'm sponsoring my husband from Canada and I'm praying that he'll have an interview within 9 months before I give birth 😭😭 It seriously sucks being pregnant and going through immigration :((

I am. I had to go through our first sons pregnancy alone:(, with lots of travelling. Then we planned our next pregnancy with our original interview date, then almost had a heart attack when my interview in April got cancelled! I was finally able to officially move on the 25 of November. Fingers crossed things will work out for you ❤️

Nope, we tried as my Husband is stuck here and they didn’t care

Did you guys hear back yet? I hope soon.....I have my fingers crossed for you. This is taking forever.

Does anyone know what are the situations where expedite case is considered?

Montreal is NOT liberal with expedites.  It's quite challenging dealing with Montreal consulate!  I tried, citing significant disservice to my kiddo who has some special needs and having a learning management team established in the US, my job needing me back in the US and financial concerns but they said nope.  Apparently one of us needed to be dying I guess.

It's been frustrating with the lack of transparency/updates, especially during COVID.

It's even more frustrating having a NEXUS and knowing the US government already has my fingerprints, police record, etc. and all the consulate really needs is a medical exam.

Amen to this.  I lived in the US for 5 freaking years and left to prevent visa overstay.  I have NEXUS, I have L1 visa history, I have 5 years of US income tax returns.  I agree, it's all a bit much!

I tired expediting as well for similar reasons and they said no as well.  I agree with you seems someone needs to be dying for them to grant an expedite.  If there wasn't such a backlog people wouldn't be asking for expedites.  It is beyond frustrating.
