Did you guys hear back yet? I hope soon.....I have my fingers crossed for you. This is taking forever.

Does anyone know what are the situations where expedite case is considered?

I just talked to nvc after a hour wait just now, they havent received any instructions from Montreal about resuming as of yet.

That's crazy. Have you thought about any reasons through which you could ask for expedite appointment?

Read the FAQ; this is in there:

Is ______ a good reason to expedite?
Montreal is a strict consulate in terms of approving expedites and they are not commonly granted. That being said, the following are reasons that USCIS may accept for an expedite:

USCIS may consider expediting a benefit request if it meets one or more of the following criteria:

  • Severe financial loss to a company or person, provided that the need for urgent action is not the result of the petitioner’s of applicant’s failure: (1) to file the benefit request or the request to expedite in a reasonable time frame; or (2) to respond to any requests for additional evidence in a reasonably timely manner;

  • Urgent humanitarian reasons;

  • Compelling U.S. Government interests (such as urgent cases for the Department of Defense or DHS, or other public safety or national security interests); of

  • Clear USCIS error.

I requested an expedite, how long will it take to hear back?

It depends. Some users have heard back in as little as 5-10 days, others have had to wait 3 weeks. Montreal is not liberal with allowing expedites though, so unless it is life or death it will likely be denied.

Goodness, that is absurd! We should all take back to social media/FB if we don't hear anything next week. They can't just keep sitting around, they have the WHOLE month of November to fill with interviews!!!

They won't know anything until Montreal tells them how many interviews they can do, not even if they're resuming or not since this'll be the first batch since the closure. I don't expect that'll happen until Friday at the earliest.

I am not a lawyer and nothing I say is or should be taken as legal advice.

It's been frustrating with the lack of transparency/updates, especially during COVID.

It's even more frustrating having a NEXUS and knowing the US government already has my fingerprints, police record, etc. and all the consulate really needs is a medical exam.

Just commenting to say I appreciate this stance given all of the unnecessary vitriol toward K1 folks. We've all had an absolutely exhausting process. Nothing has been fair about any of this.  To shame one group for getting processed before others, especially when we're all literally in the same exact boat at MTL, is discouraging. We should be cheering each other on as we all work toward our final goal of starting our lives with our partners. All of us had our reasons for choosing the visa route that we chose. We are all still family regardless of which process we're in.

I think my comments were taken out of context regarding K1s. What I meant is that the State Dept. seems to be favouring K1s because they have a pending lawsuit, which seems wrong. That in and of itself feels like something that could be challenged in court. That was my point.

I'm approved!!!

The whole process only took about 75 minutes. They asked for:

-birth certificate

-passport photos

-divorce decree

-marriage certificate

-police certificates (I had them for Canada, UK and UAE)

After the first window and taking biometrics, I was told to wait until I was called for the 'interview' portion.

Questions I was asked was:

-Where did you meet and when?

-How often did you see each other?  (since he was in the US and you in Dubai?)

-When did you get married?

-What husband does for a living?

-Is this both of your first marriages?

-Current US address

Because my medical expires on October 16, he strongly advised me to pick up my visa in-person at the consulate, so I'll do that as soon as it's ready.

It was streamlined process all in all.

Congrats! So happy they didn't make you redo medical since it was cutting it close!

OMG my husband feels this so strongly since he's a NEXUS card holder too! LOL

This is what I got from Montreal (Montreal-IV-DV@state.gov)when I emailed them. Perhaps if all of us who are waiting at NVC email them non-stop, then that would put some pressure on them? I work with the city a lot and they always address the loudest ones first...just a thought.InkedMontreal_LI.thumb.jpg.b4caafc8e8ebb6c32cdd442ec934b5ac.jpg

Yikes that doesn't sound promising... Although, it was a week ago - so still cautiously optimistic for news next week.

It’s a great idea to keep sending messages via social media - Twitter/Facebook and email —  asking when resumption of visa processing will be.   👍🏻
