They'll need to see the title to prove ownership of the vehicle. If there's a lien on the title you won't be able to import it.

Bill of sale it states. Which isn’t the same. I’m just trying to understand.

Can you cross the border to activate visa with your car even if you aren’t importing it at this time? Do you have. A period of time to get the car situation figured out? 6 months or 1 year?

Guys did someone try to call the embassy customer service, to see if they give any hint if interviews in the NVC will be scheduled soon?

Please look at the threads and visit the tracking spreadsheet - there have been many updates and your question is likely already answered.

Please also fill out your timeline.

Yes - you have a year to import your vehicle - but a consideration is retaining insurance on it when you give up Canadian residency.

I've emailed them. But no specific dates regarding the interview scheduling. Just a generic answer.

The bill of sale and ownership documents are required (presumably with proof of payment) before driving the car stateside.

As stated earlier, whomever you pay for the loan actually owns it. You don't own your car until you pay off the loan.

I suggest you call the local US customs and border protection office for further details.

To import your car, you need to provide the following: Canadian registration for the car, bill of sale, proof of ownership, DOT form HS-7 + EPA form 3520 (safety & emissions compliance).

Duties & Taxes

Automobiles are generally subject to duty of 2.5% of their current value when they are imported to the US. However, vehicles manufactured in NAFTA countries (Canada, U.S. and Mexico) are usually exempt from this duty.

That's what I figured, but going through timelines it looks like folks who submitted to NVC in August were DQ'ed in 2 weeks or less. Would be nice if that was the case moving forward!

Our case moved quick through NVC- about 2 weeks submitted in August. I have read a few time that NVC is prioritizing cases that are not under the current bans, perhaps that why some are going through that stage a little quicker at this point.

That's a good question. Best is to contact/call the local US customs and border protection office to confirm if it is feasible.

I believe it also depends on your insurance and how long they can cover you while outside Canada. As you become US resident (and no longer Canadian resident), insurance policies may differ. Just my 2 cents.

Just a heads up folks. This thread is very active and it may help to keep replies a bit more clear if you start a new thread for other questions. Such as car importing, health insurance, etc... this thread is moving super fast and replies are being missed. This thread will be locked at page 200. We can't really let them go past that as it cause issues. A part 2 can be made without issues. I just want to help keep information from getting lost by letting everyone know they can start a new thread for other questions.

Not to mention there is already a car importing thread with a wealth of knowledge and experiences.

The k-1s look pretty much all rescheduled. Interestingly they have interviews on the Monday and Tuesday the last week of October.

I think they rescheduled more that week in order to finish the rescheduling and continue forward with future interviews for November. CR1/IR1 hopefully 🤞
