For folks who were recently DQed, how long after submitting documents did that take?

It took us ~2 months (without any ask for additional documents). We submitted all documents in Dec 2019 and got DQ'ed in Feb 2020.

Really? You can’t owe on it? And still be making payments?

No, you can't unfortunately.

You must own it and if you have a lease, it will not be accepted either.

Generally speaking you won't be able to import a car with a lien because you don't actually own the car. Whomever you pay for the loan actually owns it. You don't officially own your car until you pay off the loan.

This is also to ensure you don't sell the car without paying the entire amount owing of the loan.

We intend to bring our car to the US and we checked with our dealership/financing department, and they informed us that the US customs won't let us import our car if it has a loan on it.

One thing about this process that I’m now realising is that the obsessing never ends. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I used to be obsessed with checking my emails for my NOA2, then for my NVC case number, then for DQ, then for IL... you get the picture. It got even worse this summer just waiting for things to start moving again. I had such a hard time focusing on anything else.

So anyway, I thought I’d relax once I was told I was approved, but then yesterday I was still worried about my visa not actually being issued. Now that it’s in the final processing I keep checking for the tracking number 🙃 it just drives you nuts. Well it depends on your personality type too, my husband has been pretty chill through the past 2.5 years but I’m just an obsessive person lol.

I am SO OBSESSED with checking things every few minutes as well. My husband has to get me distracted, but it's literally all I can think/talk about. This process really takes over! I guess it's a good thing I'm not the one having to interview (I'd be a nervous wreck). My husband always seems to be cool, calm, and collected. LOL

Same y'all. My husband has told me on multiple occasions that I have a problem because of how much I obsess over the process rather than focusing on the things I'm supposed to be focusing on 🙈 I try to distract myself, but I am really looking forward to POE in hopes that I'll finally be able to relax haha.

Your car loan as to be fully paid. I was in the same situation. I got a personal loan to pay my car loan and now I’m good to go.

That's what I figured, but going through timelines it looks like folks who submitted to NVC in August were DQ'ed in 2 weeks or less. Would be nice if that was the case moving forward!

It used to be ~3 weeks for DQ but they got quite backlogged last fall which is what resulted in the 2-3 month wait. It's totally possible that they've cleared that backlog due to less people applying during covid and that the way things are now will be how things are moving forward!

I feel like many of us got the worst of everything. Stuck at Nebraska service center for over a year, just before they switch to electronic system. At NVC when they were at their slowest, finally DQd and then seeing people get through NVC in a matter of days. Finally in line for interview and Covid shuts down the embassy. I feel robbed of over 2 years of our lives because I am just like many of you and obsess over when it will finally happen. Being excited to cross out another day is no way to live.

I already checked but it only mentions the Ready and Issued part :) I’ll just assume there’s no other step in between.

Haha yeah that’s all of it. I didn’t actually see when it said issued, I just remember getting my tracking number and then I checked and it said issued 😂

We were also at NSC so I empathise :( the difference in processing times amongst service centres is extremely unfair. In my time Potomac would process cases in ~3 months, Texas in 6-8 months and Nebraska in a year if you were lucky... The consulate in Montréal is also known to be slow. Stay strong!! It does end at some point! Focus on each other.

Haha! Does the tracking number come from the consulate? Or another email address?

Could not agree more. We went through Nebraska SC as well and it has been nothing but a very painful and long process.

Your timeline is very similar to ours, so let's hope next batch of ILs will come soon enough. We've all been very patient, stressed out and obsessed with no guarantee or ETA. Very thankful to this forum and all the individuals who share their experience. It brings hopes and makes you feel less alone.

I haven't heard that, but it seems reasonable. I would recommend calling ahead to the POE to confirm that they'll allow this. I know you can't do this when moving to Canada from the US - they won't allow you to take the vehicle across the border without importing it.

It is a NIGHTMARE coming into Canada.  Now, you have to register with RIV, too and pay a dumb fee!
