Anyone have experience crossing to the US since the COVID closings?  I would really like to see my wife and step-son and stay through Halloween.  He's so so jacked about Halloween this year and has tons of plans for showing me all his "spooky" decorations.  I guess it's totally up to the officer at the border.  Of course I'm bringing the usual kit of Canadian apartment lease, utility bills, marriage certificate, etc.  I've heard lots of stories of people with spouses in the US getting turned away, and I've similarly heard stories about people being able to cross to see their family and in one case to see their *girlfriend*.  I know land and air crossings have different restrictions but I'm going to go to a land crossing (Peace Arch) first since it's 25-30 minutes from my place and then 15 minutes from my wife's once in the US (plus, you know, $$$).

You better fly. You will most likely be turned away if you drive to the land border.

Land borders have been and remain closed since March. The only cases I've heard of getting through are on compassionate grounds (e.g. medical/other family emergencies). Officers at land crossings have even told folks to try flying when they get denied entry at a land crossing. I've flown to Seattle from Vancouver since COVID began and have had no issue. Yes, it's definitely more expensive but it's the only option for folks who aren't experiencing an emergency. If you still want to try your luck at a land crossing, you can always call CBP to confirm and save yourself a possible trip to the land border.

I have travelled a few times to go see my wife and all they asked was to see my marriage certificate and her passport copy. No issues whatsoever. They give you the whole Quarantine guidelines and questions of course but I have driven over about 3 times during all of this. Peace arch also.

@Japples Are you a US citizen coming into Canada or vice versa? The land border restrictions are different for Canadians entering the US vs US citizens entering Canada. Canada allows US spouses to cross the land border and visit, as long as they comply to a 14-day quarantine period. The US has not made similar exceptions for Canadian spouses.

My mistake. I read it incorrectly. Yes USA are way more strict about letting Canadians in by land. My wife had to take a test which is only reason why they let her in. We had to provide proof etc.

Sorry for the confusion I thought @legendqueue was coming into Canada not vice versa. Air would be best as everyone stated.

Well, after 177 days, I finally have my green card in hand.  Even better - it has the correct IR status!  Our 2 year anniversary was 03/31 and we crossed by land on 04/01.  I thought for sure I'd have to file an adjustment, but I don't :)

Yesss amazing! Congrats!

I levelled up to IR1 on July 7th 😋 but yes in 5 short day we’ll hopefully make it official by passing my interview. I’ve done everything I could to prepare so I pray it goes smoothly.
