For those that are too far away to move by car, what are you using to ship your belongings?

I have 4 suitcases only, I’m debating between: checking 2 in and shipping 2 via sendmybag ; pay a bit more and just bring everything with me on the plane. I don’t know how I feel about leaving half of my things to a company, for them to have to open the suitcases at customs, etc.

I'd probably vote pay the extra baggage fees.  Like everything else, I'm sure you'll hear some covid excuse and your other 2 bags will end up delayed indefinitely.  The whole process has been delay after delay, so I'd not want to risk it!

Congratulations!! Still waiting for IR1 interview but when our time comes we will be crossing by land at Fort Erie/Peace Bridge. Interesting to hear Rainbow Bridge is processing as they are a smaller crossing, but none the less as long you get in to the US that's all that matters! Good luck with your new life in the US!!!

Our choice of crossing is based on two experiences with our family at the border last fall--a bad one at Fort Erie and a good one at Rainbow.  I realize that on this trip, we're likely to have a good experience, and we'll do routine crossings at Fort Erie again in the future, but since we know we'll be sent to secondary processing this time: Rainbow it is!  :) This is not saying that Rainbow officers are generally kinder or more understanding than Fort Erie; just based on two specific (and very different) interactions with CBP officers while our children were present.

In college, I once upgraded to first class because the free baggage perks was cheaper than paying extra for each suitcase. That was years ago, but may be worth a quick check to see if it holds true. Plus, you know, first class.

Oh, that doesn’t sound good. I haven’t read about anyone’s experience crossing at Fort Erie but I will definitely keep my eyes open for any comments. Would love to hear your  comments about your crossing after you get into the US!

I wonder this too. K1 has a similar number of visa issuances (based on the stats) but are only interviewed 1 day a week vs the 3 that we need so they must be faster to interview. If they continue with scheduling only Monday/Wednesday after the reschedules then I hope they don't do alternate days because of how much faster they can interview K1. Maybe if we get 1.5 days and they get the other half day? Then at least the number of visas issued in each category should be relatively similar.

MTL will resume usual coordination with NVC to move forward with spouse and fiancé visa cases waiting to be scheduled after done with cancelled K-1 interview. This might be done in 2-4 weeks. If MTL will keep working with current pace of work after all cancelled interview scheduled then it would be a big bonus for all of us. Somehow I think MTL will keep up this current pace in order to clear the back log.

Any special instructions for POE? I know some people have made inventory lists of what they’re bringing in etc. Is this required?

Im hoping it’ll be quick and painless. We’re bringing our newborn across with us so hoping she stays asleep in the car with my husband  and I can be in and out quickly!

Anyone have experience crossing to the US since the COVID closings?  I would really like to see my wife and step-son and stay through Halloween.  He's so so jacked about Halloween this year and has tons of plans for showing me all his "spooky" decorations.  I guess it's totally up to the officer at the border.  Of course I'm bringing the usual kit of Canadian apartment lease, utility bills, marriage certificate, etc.  I've heard lots of stories of people with spouses in the US getting turned away, and I've similarly heard stories about people being able to cross to see their family and in one case to see their *girlfriend*.  I know land and air crossings have different restrictions but I'm going to go to a land crossing (Peace Arch) first since it's 25-30 minutes from my place and then 15 minutes from my wife's once in the US (plus, you know, $$$).

I flew to the US in June from Calgary and didn't have any issues with the border officer.  I had tried the land crossing but was turned away because of the border restriction.  My step daughter flew into Canada a week ago but she has status in both countries so didn't have any issues getting back into Canada.

Depending what the flights are like I am wanting to go down in November or December.  Just have to wait and see
