I know this has recently been talked about on here but we just want an opinion maybe from someone who has or had a similar situation.. My husband's interview is Jan. 29, his Police background check will be one year old on Feb. 17th, a couple of weeks later. Even though it's not officially expired yet should we look into getting a new one or just go with the one he has? I've been reading quite a bit about them on here and can't figure out what would be best. Thx!

POE: Dec 14, Ambassador Bridge

The lady at the main booth started grilling me about my relationship with my husband but once she allowed me through to secondary though those guys were great. When I pulled up the officer asked what was going on today. When I told him my immigrant visa finally came through and he said "yay!!!!!!" I was able to relax a bit. I was there about 45 min and that included importing my car as well. Told me welcome to the USA. Overall good experience.

Final count for me was 801 days 23 1/2 hours from NOA to arrival at home..

Congratulations! Did they ask for a letter of compliance for exporting your car? I've read that you need this to export into the US.

Thanks! I prefilled in the documents and had my letter of compliance, bill of sale and ownership that I handed them. There was one additional form they had me complete at the border for the actual entry but they provided instructions on how to complete it.

It seems like Quebec government may shut down non essential businesses for 2 weeks post Christmas. Let's see what happens with the consulate!

Hoping this is just retail-type businesses....  Montreal Consulate closed down for a longgg time during the summer to make sure everything was safe - so hoping it will be considered essential.  (I have a Jan 11 interview date, so I will be impacted if it is closed).

Hi, my fiancé will eventually be importing his Hyundai Elantra when it’s time for him to move. Why was the Hyundai Elantra not compliant and couldn’t be made so either?

Hi VJ Fam! I wanted to write a lengthier review on my husband's interview experience at Montreal.

Husband's interview appointment was December 14th @ 9am ET.

He went inside around 8:55am ET, He was asked COVID related questions (any symptoms, traveled outside the country) and they checked his passport at the door before he was let in. Once entering, he proceeded to the first window. They took his passport and told him to sit down and wait to be called again. He was called back up to the first window after 10-15 minutes. At the first window, he was asked to provide his original documents:

- Police Certificates

- Marriage Certificate

- Birth Certificate

- 2 passport photographs

Surprisingly, they did NOT ask for my 2019 tax returns although my husband had those handy.

At the first window, they took my husband's fingerprints and he was asked to confirm his address, my address, and both our phone numbers (we had rehearsed this, so he had this all memorized already YAY). They did not take his DS260 confirmation. He was also asked for his medical. My husband mentioned that he had completed his medical on Nov 30th with Dr. Zatzman and they had sent confirmation of it being submitted via emedical on Dec 6th. The officer mentioned that it was not in their system yet. My husband had proof of completing the medical (we had slotted in the email confirmation from the Doctor and the receipts) and he presented those. I'm REALLY glad my husband had this proof and I would highly recommend anyone completing their medical to bring this along because there can be a delay from medical results being sent and received by the Consulate. He then handed my husband the domestic violence abuse pamphlet and told him to be seated until he is called again for the interview.

My husband waited for about 1.5 hours until he was called to the second window for the interview. He had his fingerprints taken again and did his oath. The interview bit lasted about 10 minutes. He was asked the following questions:

- Who is your petitioner?

- How did you meet?

- What does your wife do for a living?

- Where did you get married? As my husband answered this question, we had rehearsed that he specifically say we had a religious wedding ceremony first and then the legal ceremony after in presence of both our families. As a follow up to this question, the IO said "So your families get along?" Husband laughed and said "Yes, they definitely do!"

- When did you first come to Canada? (Husband is a Canadian PR holder. I made sure my husband remembered the year he first came to Canada and received his PR in case this question came up, and it did).

- What was your longest stay in the USA?

The interview bit went well, but husband was given a 221g as they did not have the medical results reflected yet in their system, so could not approve him on the spot. They kept his passport and stated once the medical was received they would issue the visa.

I know many VJ members mention that the interviewing bit is easy, but I would highly recommend you be fully prepared. My husband and I rehearsed a variety of questions (I had compiled a list based on Consulate reviews from VJ) and he had his dates/answers down SOLID. Please make sure you know how to answer these types of questions effectively with dates/detailed info down. My husband was very grateful that I had helped him practice, so he didn't stumble upon any dates or answers during the actual interview portion. It's better to practice and be overly prepared!

Now, we wait for his medical results to reflect in the Consulate's system before his visa is issued and passport is on hand. No idea how long that will take, but we'll just wait and see.

Hope this helped! If anyone has any questions, feel free to DM me! ❤️

I feel every last word. Take a look at my review. We were advised some things that helped but still a very grueling process.

TPMS. It took me 3 days of calls to find out that hyundai canada does not make or install TPMS on elantra and hyundai US TPMS system doesn't work on the car. There were some accounts of people being able to import the car with proof of installation but the actual rule is it has to be a dealer not a 3rd party install and since hyundai won't do it then you are at the mercy of the agent whether or not they will let your car in with an installed TPMS that doesn't even work.

Edit: there is a tpms thread on the canadian sub forum going over how one person was able to cross with it installed by a 3rd party. I confirmed by calling multiple POE's and I believe he got lucky. feel free to read the thread it is very helpful. Also maybe your elantra is a different model with TPMS and you are compliant. phone hyundai to find out.

Yes I’ve seen that thread before, which is why I was so confused about some people getting lucky and some not. Does it have to be a dealership to get TPMS installed or could it also be an OK Tire for ex?

the rule is a dealership. some people who live near the border tried with 3rd party and were successful but I live 5 hours from my nearest poe and I'm moving with our dog and my wife. It's not a situation that I wanted to gamble. I called my poe and they said it had to be dealership so i sold my car and bought another one. I can't really tell you if its worth the risk for you or not. some people had success. I know some others have not. the other option is you can bring it in temporarily when you move and you have a year to either destroy it or sell it in canada. again with where I am immigrating that is not an option as I'll be over 20 hours from the nearest poe.

Not wanting to sound silly but how do they know if you have TPMS in your vehicle. We do but just curious about this as I wasn't aware of it..

It is tire pressure monitoring system. If you have have a digital screen with the pressure of your four tires you have it. It is required in the US but is in only some makes and models in Canada.

We don't have a digital screen so how do we prove it otherwise? We just get a warning that the pressure is low when it happens
