Our case is already reviewed and DQ at NVC. At that moment, we hadn’t applied for work permit. Will surely take the work permit to the interview....when it happens.

Interesting that they didn’t ask for a proof of her status in Canada. I would upload it now because it’s likely that they’ll need it to confirm they can interview her here. It doesn’t cost you anything but it might avoid delays. Just my two cents!

Hi my husband also came on student visa. When we got DQ, NVC told us that Canadian consulate will ask for legal staus documentation in order to qualify for interview. We uploaded his work permit approval letter. As soon as u get work approval letter/stamp on passport, i would upload to Ceac so it doesn't cause you delay.

We uploaded her student permit for proof of status. We still haven’t received the work permit so can’t upload it for now.

Thank you for the information. Once we receive the work permit we can upload it. But just a concern I had...I was under the impression that once a case is DQ we shouldn’t make any changes to the documents uploaded rather just take the additional documents at the interview.

Yes it has to match that

I don’t think you can change the ds260? My new husbands new passport number is entered in but not sure how I would change so it matches DS260.?

I am in this situation, I was a student and got DQ when my student permit was still valid. Since then, I received my work permit and I thought I only needed to bring it to the interview.

Okay that’s what I meant by adding a copy of her Canadian permit!! Good. In my time I went back and forth about it and I didn’t want to add too much additional documents 😒 I regretted not doing it.

Hi all! I would like your advice on something... I live/work in California (currently on a visa) and am a Canadian PR. I was DQ in mid-May. For the Canadian police certificate, my fingerprints were not able to be run through the fingerprint check, and instead just a name check was done. We retried getting fingerprints 5 times (all from different fingerprinting services) and each time the prints were rejected. We submitted documentation of all these attempts and the name check results, and the NVC approved the police certificate. Will this be sufficient for my interview? Or will they only accept the fingerprint check police certificate at time of interview? Thank you for your responses!

I don’t think they care what type of permit you’re on as long as you have status here, otherwise they can’t interview you. I’d bring to the interview the original student permit you submitted a copy of to NVC + whatever permit you’re on when you interview.

( @AnkitShah20 I read too quickly earlier and I hadn’t realized you were DQ already, sorry for the confusion! I was eager to help people avoid making the same mistake I made haha)

Anybody concerned about the possible government shutdown? My husband's interview is 9/30 and there's talks of shutting government down 10/1... If his visa is approved, does anybody know if issuing visas would be an essential/exempt thing? I can't handle another stupid hurdle.

I don’t know. I’m trying to remember if the previous shutdown affected operations up here but I don’t think it did? Also isn’t the consulate operating slightly differently from the government in the US?

I found this in a WaPo article from 2018 shutdown times, so seems like we'll be OK but if the shutdown goes on for too long it may become a problem for people further away for interviews.

2. Procedure

A government shutdown has a major effect not only on who goes to work but also what work gets done. The State Department, for example, said it will keep issuing passports and visas — although it warned that such activities “will remain operational as long as there are sufficient fees to support operations.” But some other services will not be provided, which can have unexpected consequences.

The Atlantic Council’s Graham Lampa noted that the State Department responded to a recent tsunami in Indonesia by telling Americans in the region to follow the Twitter account of the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta for updates. However, that embassy’s Twitter account announced that it had stopped tweeting regularly because of the shutdown. The U.S. Geological Survey, one of the world’s top resources for scientific research on seismological events, was unable to provide data on the tsunami.

If her study permit expires by the time they schedule interview, they will ask for updated documents and won't schedule interview until they receive it. If its still going to be valid, then u have nothing to worry about it.

In the topic " K1s being rescheduled" from this website, in the Canada section, someone said NVC would send cases to Montreal only when the yellow dot here become green. Yesterday I called NVC to ask them questions related to my papers, and I got the chance to ask them when they would be sending new cases to the embassy. The agent said the Montreal Embassy wasn't scheduling any case at the moment, and he didn't know when it would happen.

I am just lost with this situation. I thought once the cases that were canceled got rescheduled, all the other cases would fill the pipeline. But apparently they're creating a bubble in November? Why? The uncertainty hurt as much as the wait. At least when you have information, you can make plans.
