I spoke to an immigration lawyer and apparently they have had two of their DQ'ed cases from Jan and March get scheduled for an interview last week. I'm puzzled that hasn't been the experience on VJ.

I think he might be getting confused with K1s. 😕

A notary public can certify photocopies of original documents, yes.

No exactly the same scenario so take this information as it’s appropriate... I had to submit a “certified true copy” of my Canadian passport to submit with my taxes. I had it done at the closest Canadian embassy/consulate where I was abroad.

For that particular purpose, a notary public  wasn’t sufficient because the document had be validated by the issuing agency specifically. But that was a very specific requirement.

Also true. For IRS purposes, a certifying acceptance agent must verify and copy someone's non-US passport for submission with an ITIN application.

Thank you so much @Hawk Riders @wordsfromdani for the helpful information!

I have an appointment for my son’s American passport at the US Consulate in Toronto. My husband will not be able to attend and their website states that a certified copy of the ID is needed but doesn’t specify any additional details. I’ve tried contacting them as well.

I think I’m just going to go ahead with having my husband get a copy certified from a notary public and hope for the best!

January might be correct, since we had a few early Jan DQs get scheduled, but definitely not March! I’m a Feb DQ and my interview would have come before any March DQs. Also, we still have the entire month of Jan DQs left to go through haha. He probably is thinking of K1 for the March date.

I think we might have spoken to the same one given your location, and heard that the two interviews were from December and January.  This is confusing, but maybe next week will bring some clarity!

Hi all,

Given the long wait times from DQ to interview date at the Montreal consulate, has anyone here been in the US already and decided to switch to AOS (reason due to COVID to avoid preconceived intent upon entering) after DQ? What are the pros and cons to doing so?

I was in Seattle for a month in Aug and my lawyer advised not to as it takes forever. I am here again till the new years and hoping they will resume interviews next week.... so tempted to switch to AOS since they are slowing down again, but we are so close...At least I am glad I can be with my husband for a while till new years, but the thought of going back  and not getting interview early new year freaks me out....

Same! I'm in California waiting for my husband to get his interview already. I have to go through my pregnancy without him 😔

I hear you all. This is extremely frustrating. My husband and I are apart also for months now, we have been DQ'd since April 29th. We are ready to begin our life together. Hang in there everyone 🤗

Hi VJ fam. How are you all feeling? Are we ready to see some new interview letters come in this week? My husband always tells me, “think positive and positive things will happen”. So, I’m trying to manifest that here and in myself for some peace of mind. Let’s see how long I last before MTL pisses me off again LOL.

Let’s hope you’re right.  I saw a lot of new comments on the Facebook just now, as I was leaving mine.  People are really laying it out for them, especially us spouses.   🤞🏻
