Has anyone had a family member in the US drive across the border to Canada to visit?

My wife's parents want to visit. They're aware they have to quarantine for 14 days. We just want to make sure there won't be an issue crossing via land border.

Yep! I'm from the states and am currently in Canada. since we're married they let me through. I just had to have proof of our marriage and a copy of his passport. No issues getting through at all! I think media made it sound like it's so hard or risky to get across than it actually is.

I crossed over on the 17th and don't have mine yet either, but was able to make an appointment at my local office for this coming Thursday to submit an application. Hopefully that will get things rolling! On a side note, my green card status changed to in production on Saturday so it should be here soon :)

Hopefully they will send yours back with your married name.

May I ask where you checked this please? Is it on the same page where we paid the immigrant fees?

@Hadarah it’s encouraging that you were able to get your SSN card in your married name. Does your visa have your married name on it?

It’s so annoying they would only issue my visa in my maiden name even though my passport has both... I’d like my marriage to be recognised here 😒 and not have to go by a different name than the one I’ve been using for over 2 years.

use the reciept number that was given when you paid the green card fee (mine started with IOE)

Yes thank you! I actually checked just after. I had completely forgotten we could look it up. I assume I’ll receive it next week then.

Looks like the consulate is still scheduling K1’s for November; today someone received the 30th as a date .  As has been the case, many people are not getting a months notice.  Keep sending messages and reminding them that we’re waiting and watching!

Canada recently opened up its restrictions and family members are now allowed to visit. More info is available here: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/coronavirus-covid19/visitors/immediate-family.html

My understanding is that this applies for land borders and air travel alike.

Wanted to draw your attention to this resource from the AILA to amplify their vision for improvements to the immigration system, including consular processing.

Could be as late as the 17th for the monthly ILs if we look at last years dates.
but this is really annoying. They can work everyday on the k visas but it’s been 4 weeks for us now.

I someone mention on social media there was a K1 interview scheduled for December 7th.  We gotta be vocal!

My husband crossed over back in June. They let him through because we're married, but maybe they're more lenient now?

I would suggest to call from a Canadian phone number (US phone numbers don't go through) the Canadian border first thing as they open in the morning:

1-800-959-2036

They were able to answer our questions prior to his crossing.

PS: the government called my cell 4 times to make sure we were quarantining. You must absolutely answer your phone.

Ok thank you.

So to confirm, if a family member visits, it's not just them that is subject to quarantine but the entire household, right?

Yep - my visa has my married name on it, and my passport only has my married name. At the time we applied for the visa I had already changed everything over, driver's license and everything. So all my ID was in my married name and there wasn't any confusion. But don't worry if your SSN is in your madien name, you can easily get it changed, just let them issue it either way. Most of the time you don't show the card anywhere you just have the number memorized. You may have to show it to open a bank account, and in that case, if it's still in your maiden name, just show your marriage certificate too and you'll be fine. That's what I had to do in order to open a a bank account before my SSN arrived in my married name.

At that time, it was indeed the entire household. But you could ask the border when you call, they were super helpful when we spoke.
