hey i'm a canadian Ir-1 married to a u.s citizen.... i'm stuck in montreal waiting on an interview to be scheduled. i'd love to be a part of this group so i can keep up to date considering the lack of info on my application and the embassy's lack of transparency.

I believe they treat k1 visa as immigrant visa, thats what it says on the email they sent me ❤️

They aren’t suppose to, K1 aren’t immigrant visa. They are non-immigrant visa type.

they treat it as immigrant visa because the intention is the same as spouse visa.

Yeah the intention, but it is still a non-immigrant visa according to the department of state. Therefore, they should still treat them as non-immigrant and give priority to spousal visa. At least to give us more days in November. They should by fairness give us November 25 and 30 to spousal and to be done with K1 for the rest of November.

I think we can use K1’s for reference but maybe refrain from calling them out on VJ. I think we can all agree the issue isn’t the K1 people, it’s the consulate.  USA immigration allows a K1 visa and people go that route for whatever reason.  It’s definitely frustrating to see them being scheduled before CR1/IR1, when ideally we would be scheduled in tandem. I’m sure many K1 applicants have been together forever and are doing family things like raising kids together. My brother has been with his common law partner for 22 years and have raised  2 children. In  this day and age, families are dynamic and are built on foundations that work for those involved.
Food for thought.

I’m not at all against K1 visa, I’m glad for them. I’m actually jealous. I just think it’s sucks that the consulate is giving them more days compare to what we are receiving for now. I don’t believe it’s fair. I’m just annoyed because some of us have been waiting for so long. I know that K1 visa take less time to get an interview and to be able to go in the USA but more time for AOS. I just think it’s suck to be stuck, I can’t start my career or I can’t start a family with my husband, because we are waiting to be back in the USA and to be settled back home. I’m just really jealous of their luck.
