I am fine with the fact that the Republicans had the vote to pocket the Garland vote. That is the system. I am fine that Mitch wants to try to force a vote on Trump's nominee, his nominations have not been that far from center compared to Thomas.

What gets my goat is the holier than thou attitude that pretends that this is anything other than a naked power grab by McConnell because the Republicans have the Senate. Just be straight with us.

75% chance Trump will not be President, 50/50 they won't hold the Senate. Demographics are shifting and if the forces on the right want to hold onto Citizens United, they have to stack the courts.

Not all Republicans will go along with this plan. Some are facing voters.

What's funny is that the Demographics are shifting and it isn't looking to good for the Democrats. Asians, Blacks, and Hispanics are turning to the Republicans more than they have in the past. There have been numerous polls now showing surging support for Trump amongst minority communities.

Also what is the issue here? Trump and the Republicans are playing it straight letting everyone know what is going on.

And he should nominate and it is up to the senate to do it's work.

I wish Biden would publish his list of potential nominees as a comparison.   And I would also like to see Kanye's list!

We are this close to the election and I would like to see any intelligent emminations coming from the basement.

He doesn't even have a list.

He couldn't even take the time to come out of the basement today to make a statement saying that he was not going to campaign today due to RBG. The campaign told reporters at 8:30am that they wouldn't be doing any events or questions today.

I also looked back on Amy Coney Barrett's confirmation hearings where Democrats chided her for being religious, applying an unconstitutional litmus test to her nomination, then making her and others prejudge any abortion case that comes before them in the appellate court, even though they had already made up their mind they were going to vote against her to begin with. Even though she made it through the confirmation process, she got the psychological beating she'll remember when making future decisions.

I think Trump will nominate a conservative female judge within a week or so.......as a result, I think the looney rioters will riot........and it will help Trump......In the end, the nominee will be confirmed...this is a nightmare for the far left......just my opinion.

What I have been hearing is that it will be Amy Comey Barrett or Barbara Lagoa.

Amy would be the right choice I think because she has alittle more experience and help with the Catholic vote. While Lagoa would be the strategic choice because she is a 1st generation Cuban born in Miami, so it would help with women and immigrants.

There is another name that has been floated around "Amul Thapar" but I don't see him getting it this time around. He is a 1st generation Indian and has extensive judicial experience.

Amy is the only choice left. SCOTUS would be conservative 3-4 generations.

Trump doesn't need help with Cubans, at least not here in Florida.  They all sing his praises.  The Cubans here tend to work hard, and appreciate a president who stands behind legal immigration.

Anecdotally speaking, of course.

You listed 5 people who actually had SC nomination hearings. Let's not move the goalposts. Why don't you list some examples of people who didn't get a hearing because congress declined to have any hearings for a year. There was Garland. Got any more?

There are many good potentials he could pick. But I die inside when there was the suggestion of Cruz.

I also wanted to say that when I heard this news of her passing my heart was very heavy indeed. She really was an incredible woman. She left this earth on a day of significance and it is truly fitting.

I haven't really wanted to join in here, because my feelings about her passing transcend the political. She has been a role model to me, a woman who made her own path in the world at a time when many doors were closed to her because of her sex. She made the country more equal for women and men both -- her push for equality was grounded in her belief that one sex should not benefit from protections the other could not enjoy. She was a lover of the arts, a woman who made friendships that did not heed partisanship. She was an amazing writer, a gifted jurist praised by all her colleagues. She was a fighter. She was a lady

A whole generation grew up in the UK thinking you had to be female to be PM so it is difficult for me to relate.

It's her dying wish that her seat be held open until the next president is installed!

Conveniently.. it was her wish (and another justice) in 2016 that the seat be filled right away...

McConnell should honor RBG by adopting the new Ginsburg rule!

Also.. I found in that NYT article the transparent politicization of the court telling, and when the left try to say that Roe is untouchable, quotes like this demonstrate how moot precedent is.

I thought Heller was “a very bad decision,” she said, adding that a chance to reconsider it could arise whenever the court considers a challenge to a gun control law.

Should Judge Garland or another Democratic appointee join the court, Justice Ginsburg will find herself in a new position, and the thought seemed to please her.

“It means that I’ll be among five more often than among four,” she said.
