Hi guys, does anyone have insight on how the SSN with AOS work? I am an April 2020 AOS filer and since the SSN offices have been closed I have been able to apply. But the AOS forms gave option to choose apply via AOS so was wondering how that works. Does it come together with EAD or does it take longer? Can I apply SSN separately as well? I saw that they are accepting applications via mail. I was wondering if I can apply by mailing in the form as I wait for EAD, which is severely delayed anyways.

The I-765 lets you apply for an SSN alongside the EAD. They are sent separately.

Option 2 is to just go to the SSA yourself once you have the EAD and apply for it in person.

But the EAD must be approved before you qualify for an SSN (since your I-94 is already expired).

Thank you. I did want to apply immediately after my arrival but SSN offices have been closed ever since I arrived. :( Do you have any idea how much time SSN will take once the EAD is approved?

Hard to say given the current situation, but typically once you apply for an SSN, it arrives in the mail in a week or 2.
