Hi all, I am the petitioner who is in the same country as the applicant.

I am a nurse and has already passed NCLEX and got all the RN license and credentials needed for being a nurse in the states in January 2020.

Our packet 3 was sent in mid March 2020 but since then the consulate has suspended all K1 visa interviews.

Originally we planned to move together to the states together after her K1 visa is approved. It has been 6 months still no interview yet.

Do you think I have any ground to request expedite appointment using reason of national interest - medical professional who is willing to do COVID jobs?

Or shall I go alone first (I do not have any family nor close relatives there) to get an actual job before asking for expediting our case?

Appreciate some input. Thank you.

You have no reason to not be in the USA and working.. the US never closed to US citizens... this does not apply to your case.

Hi @alphard,

The reason originally stated is not valid for an expedite, because you are the one who has the national interest skill, not your fiance.  Also, even if your fiance also had the skill and licence to practise in the US, they will not be able to work when granted the visa.

You may try for a humanitarian reason.  You want to move back to the US and help out with the crisis, but need the support of your fiance, whom you cannot marry in HK.

But don't you need a specific license in each state where you wish to practice?  Each state state has their own requirements.

Off Topic:  I took the NCLEX exam in 1993...and passed ( My preparation consisted of reviewing a 5000 question guide, then nothing for 2 weeks prior to the exam).......LOL...

NCSBN developed Nursing Licensure Compact in 2000 - 34 states have enacted NLC legislation until today. So if a nurse has license from any one of the states among the NLC, he/she can enroll for compact license to practice in the other 33 states freely. I think more states joined the compact since COVID-19 pandemic hit, I rmb when I signed up there are only 29 compact states.

Re: When I took NCLEX it was computerized MC, and I accidentally picked a date 2 weeks from the day I applied.....and passed ...phew (only have a few days for study because of hectic work schedule in hospital)

Hong Kong? Note that China proclamation doesn't affect applicants in HK or Macau.

Yup, Hong Kong is not banned by Trump. And I thought of asking my fiance to visit me with tourist visa.

But many Hong Kong passport holders entering U.S. with valid tourist visa were repatriated at U.S. airport. Too many asylum seekers recently.
