there are people who still get AP status not not refused. That AP mainly means, your visa is being printed. Or process is happening. I read some where that AP stays is replaced with Refuse. But that’s not true. People are still getting AP status

Department of State made a system change back in March.  AP status now says "Refused" in CEAC --

In all my years of reading VJ, I have never seen someone with an AP status who's visa was printed.

When it is printed, it will say 'issued.'

are those woman from pakistan?

I am naturalized US citizen. (just like my whole family). it seem they gave that questioner for my wife & not for me. My wife is not my cousin. I'm surprised for this DS5535 as i don't see any reason behind it. its legit marriage & family history is clean too.

Yes there were women in Pakistan that have received the questionnaire.

Today I received a call from embassy that they will be sending my passport back. And then they will request it back??

why can’t they just keep my passport if it’s a short process  & not go through the hassle. Wife won’t be going out the country or city (lol)

Is this a bad sign?

Or is it just the process under ds5535 that they must mail back passport?

maybe they know our medical will expire in month & it may take > 1 month. So I might be require to take medical again which requires passport?

so confused

Yours or your wife's passport?

DS-5535 is not always taking a really long time, however, I've not seen it be completed in days.

If they are not close to making a decision on the visa, they have no need to keep the passport.

Pakistan usually does not return the passport for long AP unless it is requested back.  They will hold it even if its years.  This must be something new.

My case is not in AP. Status says Refused

End of next week I might get passport back

Refused status is used for Administrative Processing.  I wouldn't worry at this point unless the status changes to "returned to nvc".  Although ISL usually holds the passport maybe they have changed the process.
