N-400 approved. Charlotte NC USCIS field office experience

Hello,

 

I got my N-400 approved today at Charlotte NC field office (201 Regency Executive Park Dr). Interview and Oath were conducted all together. I filed based on 5-year rule, got my GC thru employment. Brought a whole stack of papers, but during the interview had to show my GC and appointment letter only. Appt was at 9 am, arrived at 8:20 and hung out till 8:45 since there was a note at the entrance saying not to enter the building earlier than 15 minutes before the appointment. Got thru security in about 10 minutes, they tried to maintain "social distancing" and let people in in small groups. Typical airport security: everything out of pockets, belt off, watch off, shoes off. Staff was prompt and friendly. 

 

The whole process was taking place in one big open room with tables and USCIS personnel. People were directed to where to go and which chair to sit on while waiting. First part was placement under oath to tell truth and face-to-face civics and reading/writing test. Officer went over basic info like name and address, then asked 6 questions that I answered (why colonists came to America, who vetoes bills, when Declaration of Independence was adopted, etc.) then it was a quick reading/writing test ( I had to read "When is the Columbus day?" to the officer and write on a tablet "Washington is the Capital"). This whole part took about 5-7 minutes.

 

Then I waited for about 20 minutes for the second part of the interview. It was done remotely via tablet. I waited for the officer while she pulled my file, she asked me to show her my GC so she could verify my alien number. After that we simply went over my application and I just confirmed the info in it with a couple of corrections: I mentioned that I took a Hunter's Ed class when applied for a hunting license and she added a comment to the section about weapons training. Then I mentioned that I was once pulled over for speeding and received a verbal warning which we both laughed about. And that was it, no other documents were requested and I brought a lot of them (tax returns, born/marriage certificates, printouts of AR11 and I-94 forms, etc.). Second part took about 15 minutes.

 

Finally, I signed a couple of forms where I confirmed that all of my data was correct and that I'm willing to take an Oath of Allegiance. After that I waited for the Certificate to be printed and took the Oath. That was about 20 minutes. And that was it! I was out of the building with my certificate of naturalization at 10:05.

 

Very pleased with my experience. I guess my case was pretty straight forward.

Amazing, So happy for you. This is definitely one to remember, reminds me of my GC interview, shared a couple of laughs , and since my mother was the petitioner she was asked questions about me where she totally forgot my Birthday hahahaha we laughed and I walked out with approval Colgate smile hahaha . butI am so glad that you are finally over that huddle. Congratulations.

I'm seeing many youtube videos about questions around N400. Vocabulary questions like what is a guerilla, what is communism... Is this a thing?

 

Also can you apply for a passport same day when you took the oath in CHarlotte?

Didn't you ask this exact question yesterday under another login?  As I said, YT is filled with misinformation.  Those question are not on the official list.
