Crossing the US-Canada Land Border on CR-1 Visa?

Hello,

I'm not sure if anyone has answered this, but does anyone know if it's possible to cross the US-Canada Land Border on a CR-1 Visa? I know LPRs, US Citizens and 'essential' travel is exempted, however are Immigrant Visas considered essential travel and expressly permitted to enter the US via the land border into the US with the current closure, or do we need to fly for this?

You can drive across - this isn't a tourism trip.

The land border allows essential travel and family reunification.  The latter is for permanent or long term visits - it is not to spend a week with an aunt across the border.

 

Therefore, you should be able to cross with the CR-1 visa and immigrate to the US.

I travel all over the world.  The only trips he cares about is Canada. I've been know to use up all my loonies at the vending machine in Vancouver or Toronto.

Not all land border crossings accept CR1/IR1 visas and it is recommended that you call the crossing in advance to confirm if they are or not. Source is a VJ member who had their interview last week and was told that when asked about their plans to travel to the US.
