The top spokesperson for the Department of Health and Human Services deleted his Twitter in the aftermath of a late-night rant in which he suggested tear gassing journalists and battled with other users on the social media platform.

Michael Caputo, who was using his verified Twitter account, reportedly commented “gas all of them” in response to a post by a self-described journalist who posted a video saying they were about to be tear-gassed. In another post, Caputo referred to another user on the social media site as a feminine hygiene product and mocked that person by saying “you have four followers

“Mr. Caputo is a critical, integral part of the President’s coronavirus response, leading on public messaging as Americans need public health information to defeat the Covid-19 pandemic,” HHS said in an emailed comment to Bloomberg, which first reported on the matter.

Caputo, who is former campaign aide to President Trump, is currently the subject of a House subcommittee investigation into whether political appointees have meddled with routine government scientific data to better align with Trump’s public statements about the coronavirus pandemic

Doesn't the Leftist media, and Democrats regularly report or make accusations without evidence?  I remember Harry Reid's famous accusation that Mit Romney was not paying taxes.  When asked for evidence, Senator Reid said go find it yourself.  Of course we also have the entire made up Russian collusion narrative the Dems and their media allies have been pushing for three plus years, still waiting for evidence on that one, I understand Adam Schiff has a boatload of it, but I am not sure why he is hiding it.  Since this is the anti-Trump strategy, why not adopt it for Trump's benefit?

I am not understanding what your comments have to do with this thread.

This man is obviously not in good mental condition and he is a critical part of the coronavirus response. Millions of lives are at stake.

The president needs to move him out of there ASAP.

Not sure calling for rioters to be "gassed" qualifies him for "off the rails", but if indeed you ARE right, and he needs to go, then I hope he takes Dr. Fauxi with him.

 

Personally, I think if the cops switched from tear gas to something that would render rioters unconscious, and therefore easier to round up and arrest, it would be great.  Of course, it can never happen, but one can dream.

I'd be all for it too, but the people criticizing this aren't offering solutions.. that is, unless one considers "defund the police"/"send social workers instead" solutions. 

 

Police tend to use this in extreme circumstances. Until I see some other reasonable method of crowd/riot control, this is still definitely a better solution. I also like water cannons.

"They did it too" is the biggest problem of American political discussion. And @dashinka, when people say "they are still waiting for evidences," it s because they don't care enough to expand their news outlets for well rounded facts. NY Times here have reported that a number of Republicans are acknowledging Russian involvements...and by the way, I am skeptical about Russian involvement (I really can't imagine CIA letting that happen lol) and I happen to lean left. Here is another report from Latvian newpaper about Russian hackers sharing Michigan voters' personal information.

Water cannon can be equally or more lethal due to sheer power of pressure.

Doesn't matter what it can be.. what it is, is a good nonlethal crowd control device. 

 

I'm also okay with continuing to use tear gas, rubber bullets, beanbag rounds, pepper balls, etc. What I don't see in people criticizing these options is what else should replace them.

I don't know, can we?  Btw, I don't remember ever saying foreign actors did not try to interfere with our elections, I am fairly certain this happens, and it is not just from Russia, heck there are many examples of the US doing things in other countries.  You could almost say that foreign media, which has different levels of governmental control, is trying to unduly influence a US election.  My comment was regarding proof there was collusion between the Trump campaign and a foreign actor.  

 

As to the OP which I could not read considering it is the NYTimes and way above my tolerance level, sure, if this guy is nuts, he should be gone.

Someone who is talking about his mental health having "failed" and there being shadows on the ceiling probably needs a rest. This isn't normal.

I can see how having to talk daily about the number of people dead from COVID19 would affect a person negatively, and I have compassion for that. But when you're unwell, you can make some poor choices. There's no shame in it.
