I was concerned because I sponsored him here and we have debt together. Plus he went out and got that car while married. Wasn't sure if I need a particular lawyer or what. It's all so overwhelming

From the little you’ve written it’s not like he’s some wealthy man. I may be stereotyping however I typically wouldn’t consider a guy who does Doordash wealthy.

Balance how much extra benefit you’re going to get against going for an expensive lawyer. I’d rather say go for an affordable lawyer or try to get him to see reason that delinquency on child support can significantly damage him and work out a mutually satisfactory child support plan between yourselves and include in your self filed divorce petition.

Just another random guy from the internet with an opinion, although usually backed by data!

He's doing some other kind of work that I have no clue on. No way is he making extra 6k in 3 months with door dash. I'm doing court order child support, my issue was if I would have to owe him, or he not have to take some responsibility with our debt since I sponsored him and also issue with parenting plan.

Could he be involved in something illegal?

I don't think so. He was an online entrepreneur when we met so I'm assuming it's something like that. But he won't disclose any info and I'm sure he was doing it while living together and I couldn't file it on my taxes.....

You're still entitled to half of his earnings. He can't hide a marital asset from the court legally.

I'm just threw trying to reason with him cuz he just sees me as controlling. So guess I'll let the courts tell him.

So sorry that you're going through this.  Best advice is to get a good family law attorney that you feel you can trust, to protect your financial interests and those of your child.  Save all financial documents and other evidence in a safe place.  An experienced attorney will try mediation first, to see if the two of you and your lawyers can work out an agreement, which is much less expensive.  If mediation doesn't work out, then you'll go to court after a period of discovery where you and your husband have to disclose all of your assets and debts, both individual and joint.  Guided by the laws in your state, the division of assets and debts, child support, custody, etc., will be decided in court in a fair and unbiased manner.  Take a deep breath, you can do this, stay strong for yourself and your child.  Prayers for you that it all works out in the end and you can heal and move on with your life in a positive way.  Good luck!

Well if he has income on the down low that may need some investigative work.

You can actually. I tried ride sharing with Uber/Lyft all while having a full time job and was able to make over $2500 every month. Very profitable but back breaking, time consuming and a big toll on my brand new car (reason why I started doing it in the first place as I wanted the car to pay for itself). I eventually stopped and haven't done it in almost 2 years BUT the the point I'm trying to make is, it is very feasible to make that kind of money via doordash/rideshare. Quite easy depending on the city you live in - Assuming you're in the Seattle metro area, piece of cake!

Hello, you say that your soon to be ex was an online entrepreneur when you met, so did he ever disclose to you or even show you what type of business he was running? Sounds to me he was and could still be an online scammer because Door Dash does not pay that well and you say he makes a lot of money. The scammers never call it what it is but they use titles such as "entrepreneur" and they call their victims "clients" (usually both in the U.S. and abroad that's a dead give away especially in online dating that a man is unemployed) . Sounds to me since he has not been sharing the details of his earnings he is the one that is controlling and he is just turning it around on you to make you look like the cause of the divorce when it is really him and he may have had this all planned out from the day he met you. I'm sorry this happened to you though I am sure you are a good person and there are some evil people out there. We have to be careful sometimes these men will use us to get here and then divorce and later marry someone back home and sponsor them to come over and the lady back home will know about it and will be very patient in waiting. It happens and sadly there is no protection against it.
