Hi all,

I introduced my Vietnamese Fiance to my siblings in the U.S. via video chat over a year ago.  Since then, they've kept in touch through Facebook Messenger.

My question is, do I need to ask my siblings to write a letter detailing when and how they met, what type of person they know my Fiance to be, their plans to meet face-to-face in 2021, etc.?

Does that ever come up or get asked in a K1 interview?

Thanks!

Tin - Natural-born U.S. Citizen, Male, Vietnamese descent

Nhi - Vietnamese Citizen, Female

Met in 2018 while Tin was on a 3 month family vacation in Vietnam.  Tin took another 3 month vacation to be with Nhi in 2019.

I-129F (K1) mailed in December 2019

NOA1 in January 2020

NOA2 in June 2020

No affidavits are the worst evidence to supply.  The can cause issues.  They are not primary evidence. Only use affidavits when there is no other evidence to submit.

Thanks for the quick and detailed responses guys!  :)

Does this mean that my Fiance's relationship with my siblings and friends is a non-issue?  Just maybe explain if and how they met, but only if asked?

Usually not an issue unless she was previously petitioned by one of the, or if your siblings have also petitioned for other members of her family.

Your proof of meeting her within 2 years prior to filing the I-129F and that you are both free to marry is the most important issue.

The visa process can be dauting for some. Following the guidelines and instructions that are here on VJ and for any instructions contained in the form instructions will better serve you to a visa. Overthinking the process and "front loading" can lead to a formula for disaster and is not necessary. Vietnam embassy is realistic in their document expectations so doing more is not necessary. Same is true for USCIS.

Our country is not Vietnam and although everyone has a different experience I will let you know my husband was not questioned about the relationship between him or my friends-I was with him at the interview. First he never met/talked to my friends. Second, although he met mom and photos were provided, and I met the majority of his family, with photos provided, none of this was mentioned.

Personally the countries that come to mind where I’ve seen people post about family questions are high fraud countries- think of a predominately Strict Muslim country in which a 25 year old man is marrying a 50 year old divorced with multiple children white lady. That’s not the norm and possibly a sign of a non legitimate relationship (historically)

Looks like you are gathering documents for the interview- gather Proof of YOUR relationship. Best evidences are proof of time spent IN PERSON together. Have your passport stamps, airline tickets, hotel bookings, photos of you two together preferably at different times you’ve met and preferably some with other people as well (you her and her family...you her and her friends... I am making the assumption she’s never been to the US to meet your family) That is what is strong.
