looks like this VJ member got their interview date in december 2021. Their nvc case seems to be completed in June 2021. Although this is for Canada embassy

Just to do everyone a favor, I reached out to US consulate Mumbai to know the statistics of visas and here is the response I received from them.
The U.S. Mission in India has resumed processing immigrant visas in all categories, though they are not yet scheduling appointments for new cases in every category. Based on the visa category, the Consulate in Mumbai and U.S. Embassy in Delhi are reaching out to applicants whose interviews were cancelled in spring 2020, by category, before resuming the scheduling of new cases in each category through the National Visa Center.

Note: The US Embassy & Consulate continue to process certain other mission-critical and emergency cases and have resumed processing cases in 221(g) status and strive to maintain COVID-19 mitigation efforts to protect the staff and customers. Due to significant backlogs, the US Embassy & Consulate cannot predict when you may be contacted for an appointment. If you have received written notification from the Immigrant Visa Unit at the U.S. Consulate General Mumbai informing you to schedule an appointment for a visa interview, or to see what local appointment categories are available.”

It would have been useful if they split 461,125 by country.

Thank you for reaching out to them. I really wish and hope that they did not update the date in this email. If they had then we are looking at one and half years of backlog.

Not sure which date you are talking about but that is the response I got from them last night. They said they can not predict when they start scheduling visas for new appointments. I am going to write them back asking any strategy if they have to clear the back log soon. If they don’t, 18 to 24 month is a good guess at the moment. Which is pain for everyone here.

According to them they are still working on applications with interview dates in spring 2020. Their DQ might be around October or November 2019.😕 two years of backlog.  So unfair.

low IR and CR numbers are due to Visa prioritization being rescinded. All applicants are given equal priority.

The prioritization of family IR and CR is pure BS and glad it got rid.

I am trying to understand the backlog here.

Before COVID19, every month they issued an average of 230 IR1 and CR1 visas. This is until Feb 2020.

From March 2020 through August 2020 they closed down the shop and issued none for these 6 months. According to this the backlog that is newly created due to COVID is around 230 multiplied by 6 which is 1380 visas. Say 1500 visas - (IR1 and CR1).

For Feb 2021 they issued 635 IR1 and CR1 visas and for March 2021 they issued 909 IR1 and CR1 visas which totals to 1544. This should have cleared the backlog created during the shutdown.

All the remaining months in the post-COVID19 - Sept 2020 through Jan 2020 and April 2021 through Sept 2021, they issued an average of 236 visas per month. This is just like before COVID so everything levels out for these months.

The usual quota of 230 visas each for Feb 2021 and March 2021 is what is remaining. i.e. 460.

This tells me that the current backlog is 460 visas plus whatever backlog they had before the COVID.

If we were having 4 months backlog before COVID now it would be 4+2=6 months.

Please let me know if I am wrong in my calculations 🙂

Current backlog is around 13 months from DQ to IL at the very least.  Current group of people stuck is DQ November 10, 2020 and above for IR1/CR1.

The tier system is removed but consulates will always prioritize USC petitioners over Green Card, that is just a basic thing.
