Dear Applicant:

We understand that you have a query regarding the resumption of services / cancelation of your appointment

U.S. Consulate Mumbai, in light of the rapid and severe rise in COVID-19 cases centered in Maharashtra state, is cancelling most immigrant and nonimmigrant visa appointments from April 12, 2021 onward, and will provide only limited mission-critical and emergency services. Your existing visa interview appointment scheduled for April or May 2021 is cancelled. Once the Consulate resumes regular consular operations, appointments will be made available and applicants will be able to reschedule.

If your biometric appointment is scheduled for future date, you may continue to attend your Biometric appointment as per the scheduled date and time at the Visa Application Center or you may reschedule both, biometric appointment as well as Mumbai Consulate appointment once made available.

For any updates on appointment availability, you may continue to check the important notice section on this website www.ustraveldocs.com/in.

Please do not contact the call center or customer support—simply login to your profile and schedule your visa interview appointments at Mumbai Consulate as available.

We hope this information is helpful to you.

Sincerely,
U.S. Visa Service Desk

Wow this is crazy I was expecting my interview to be somewhere in May or June. Seems like its going to take even longer now, given the cases in Maharashtra are rising. Pretty sure not leaving anytime before the end of this year.

can you post the question u asked. I still havent gotten a response but from this it seems we will book our own appointment. There are already issues with this, one what do we pick in step # 3 "All immigrant visa or Diversity Visa" (which is what i think we fall under) or "Embassy/Consulate Appointments". Say we pick All immigrant visa, then after step 5 bio data info, it will ask you, are u a cr1/ir1/f1, yes we fall under that, then it will ask did the nvc schedule the interview (they did but you idiots cancelled it) so we say no here, then it will say did mumbai tell you to reschedule under this category, we say yes. Then it says "did u do your finger printing before APRIL 2020". If you say no the next page will take you to a VAC appointment, but my wife already did her VAC biometrics, if you say yes it will take you to the screen to book an appointment and say no appointment available. smh its all screwed up

I, WIFE NAME (Case NUMBER) had an Immigrant Visa interview
scheduled on April 29, 2021 at the US Consulate, Mumbai. But today I
received an email stating that it was cancelled due to the rise in Covid-19
cases. My visa class is CR1 Spouse of US Citizen, and I already completed
my Biometrics and Medical Checkup at Mumbai on March 24th and 25th
respectively. I was wondering what I needed to do to get a New Interview
scheduled at the US Consulate, Mumbai.
I have attached my interview letter and further documents below.

I got this info when I called the embassy. Try calling them once.

Are you saying everyone whose interview was cancelled, needs to call the embassy in order to book a new interview date? Have you or anyone whose interview was cancelled, was able to successfully reschedule their interview so far (either by calling or via ustraveldocs)?

So we came to Mumbai for Medicals, BioMetric and Visa Interview and got stuck in the Covid. Luckily, our Medical and BioMetric were not effected as most of the offices are open in Mumbai. Consulate has cancelled 'most' of the interviews after 12 April to May end.

At his BioMetric my hubby met a guy whose interview was on 15th Apr and it was NOT impacted - reason ? He was qualified as 'emergency'. He was an F1 student and has 60 days limit to reach US to continue his course. An F1 can be considered an emergency but not us came as a setback to us.

Nevertheless, I visited the Consulate on my scheduled (but cancelled) appointment and requested to allow for an interview. It was futile and I will not suggest anyone as the guys who are at gates are tasked to dis-allow anyone whose name is not in the printed list they carry each morning.

We are at the last step now so the emotions are mixed up. We have earlier faced almost an year of forced separation and can still survive the 1-2 months of further delay. Am lucky to be with him now here in India and he is lucky to work from home for a good IT company.

Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting. We are utilizing this time to spend good time for family/relatives, plan for future and re-skill for the upcoming time so to have better and stable jobs in future.

Wish all of you a healthy time and to remain hopeful and smiling. Good time will come. Apna Time Aayega.

Hi guys

my husband had interview on april 5th in mumbai  and the officer told him that they will do background check on him since he lived in usa before and the officer also kept his passport and said once that is complete then they can issue the visa for him. So since then ceac status is “ready” and only “last update date” changes every other day but no other information. its been almost 2 weeks. Does anyone been thru this before or know how long background check takes or any info related to this. Please let me know thank you.

I really don't want to offend. But I wish you posted your experience before you needed help. It will help others who may go thru the same situation. Now as to your problem, it takes about 2-3 weeks for a federal background check if that's what they are doing. Either way it should not be too long. I'd advise calling the consulate once every 3-4 days to ask for an update. They already have his passport so you didn't need to submit it now it's just about them processing. Hopefully everything goes well. Do call the consulate! Best of luck.
