Has anyone been successful at petitioning for spouse using assets because they didn’t make the minimum incomerequirement?

Lots of people have.  Very common for retired people living on investments.  You'll need $3 in liquid assets to make up for each dollar of income shortfall.  Do not expect that barely meeting the minimum will bring you success.  Don't bother with equity in your primary residence or your only car.  Those assets are specifically considered to be NOT "liquid".

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

Some people have posted that it is at the discretion of the Counselor Officer at the Embassy & that some Embassies are more strict than others in accepting Assets in Lieu of steady Income.

So they just ask the Applicant to find a Co-Sponsor / Joint Sponsor rather than accepting the assets.

I am researching the same scenario too.My Retirement Income is 4-5 thousand above  the Minimum requirement so am considering adding Liquid Assets in addition to the Retirement (SS INCOME) to be on the safe side.

Best of luck to you.

Yes - and it is done quite often.  Assets have to be liquid ( be convertible to cash in a year) and not assets used by the petitioner (or dependents) for their daily living.  The limits use of  a residence, car, etc.

I-864 is approved initially by the NVC and it is simple math.   However the consulate officer makes a determination of Public Charge based on the totality of the cirsumstaves regardless of qualification based on income and / or assets.

If you have sufficient income only use income.  Don't show assets unless the income is borderline or unless the assets are significant or you have sponsored multiple immigrants.
