Will my previous denial of entry affect my o1 visa application?

I was denied entry to the US back in 2016 because I had worked on a previous visit under the Visa Waiver Program, I was then found inadmissible under 212(a) (7) (a) (i) (I) but I wasn't given a ban. Does this have any effect of whether or not I can get my o1 application approved? I had people telling me it is dual intent so it's fine but after looking it up I see it is still considered a non immigrant visa so I'm still unsure. As far as the other requirements go (job opportunity with a US company, highly successful in my field as an artist, awards etc) I'm sure I qualify.
