Adding a derivative child member after I-130 approval - F1 Preference Category

I was hoping somone could advise.

 

My visa is ready for processing and I am ready to start the process. The preference category is F1 unmarried son's and daughters.

 

I would like to add my child as an derivative within the CEAC website, however I am worried that this might affect my approval or cause a delay.

 

Whilst my child was already born at the time, they were not listed on the original I-130 form (long story).

 

Does anybody know if adding a child at this stage will affect my approval or cause a delay? I do not have a spouse, and would be adding a child only.

It generally wouldn’t affect approval and shouldn’t cause a delay to add a derivative, though in this case the fact that the child was not included on the original form might lead to some questions/RFE which might delay it. Hard to tell without knowing the facts of the case (it’s perfectly fine if you don’t want to share them, that’s understandable in many cases, but then understand that answers will be more imprecise). Even if you decide not to add the child as a derivative, you must disclose his/her existence at your interview. You will be swearing under penalty of perjury that all the facts provided are true.

Also, what stage exactly are you at ? Priority date, approval date, have you been invited to submit documents/pay fees At NVC, etc?

Thanks for your response Susie. I am at the stage where I am invited to submit documents / pay fees. My date just came up under the 'cut off date' this month.
