Hi guys, so I am a US citizen and my husband is a Canadian citizen. We applied for the IR1 visa in January and we haven't even gotten approved (smh) is there anyone that has gotten their application approved lately?.. please let me know.

Anyway, what I am wondering now is that i got a letter from the NY state of health saying that I qualify for medicaid but I am wondering if i take it is going to affect my process because of the public charge. Thoughts? I am currently claiming very little on my taxes (17k) and I am aware that I need to prove more once we are showing our financial documents etc (which ill have enough on my savings and maybe will claim more next year)

Any advice on what to do would be helpful

Thank you in advance

On your timeline page (which you may wish to edit to reflect the correct consulate and filing process), there's a link you can click to show similar timelines; this may be a useful comparison for you.

Currently there is an injunction filed against the new public charge rule, reverting to the standards set forth in the 1999 rule. You can read more here: https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-1999-05-26/pdf/99-13202.pdf and https://www.uscis.gov/green-card/green-card-processes-and-procedures/public-charge/injunction-of-the-inadmissibility-on-public-charge-grounds-final-rule

Do you have a joint sponsor? You can use medicaid as a USC but it's not ideal.

I don't have a joint sponsor but I can prove that I have enough savings and assets.. can the joint sponsor be a friend?

Assets (liquid or not) can be difficult but provided you have enough (at least 3x the poverty guidelines) you could be fine depending on the location you live.  NY may be more difficult as it's more expensive.  A joint sponsor can be anyone.
