Howdy-

A friend of mine is a USC. He filed spousal visa for his wife. His wife's paperwork is at the NVC before COVID shut everything down

Fast forward to today and wife had a baby boy last weekend.

Question becomes- What should be done now?

Am pretty sure wife cannot come with a baby on the original visa filed. does USC have to file paperwork for child and if so, what? Can it be added to current wife application? Is timeline going to restart for them? (Poor kids have filed since July 2019 with no end in sight)

If the USC father has lived in the US for at least 5 years, then the child is a US citizen.  They need to file a CRBA to report the birth of a US citizen with the local US Embassy and file for a US passport for the child.

The child can not be added to the case for mom.  Mom's case will proceed as normal.

Ahhh
I see. sounds easy enough.
Not sure how long the father has lived here but I think it's past 5 years (since that's how he got his citizenship)

They'll be joining the forum for further questions and do their own research. I just wanted to point them to the right direction.

Thank you!
