Hello, my mother in law has a 5 year tourist visa from Jordan, we were wondering can she travel to USA (Chicago)now? Are airlines and airports accepting international tourists?

No issue in terms of the US...just don't stop at any of the countries with the 14 day physical presence travel bans (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/from-other-countries.html).

As for finding a flight, there appear to be flights from any country.

What I would love to know, is how did your mother in law get an approved tourist visa?! My mil has tried to go to London previously and was denied so she hasn't even tried the US due to the fact that she is retired, we assume they think she will overstay her visa? Would love for her to meet her grandson and stay in our home so we don't have to purchase 4 airline tickets from US to Jordan!

She had that 4 years ago approved since the early 90’s they get visas good for 5 years. She has one year left on hers now

Ahhh I see. So it was approved before the US stopped accepting tourist visa from family members solely for the purpose of visiting family. I am hoping to see a change in office in Nov and see them working on immigration so families can visit eachother!

Don’t you think a $160 investment to see if she can get a visa is worth it if the alternative is 4 air tickets the other way?
The UK tourist visa application is way more intense than the US one. No idea what her chances are but just saying “she didn’t get this so she won’t even try get that” seems a bit odd under the circumstances. Plenty people have their retired parents visiting on B visas.

???  None of the bans specify this.  Are you maybe referring to temporary Covid related restrictions in operations?

She should at least try to apply for the US tourist visa. The DS-160 fee is just $160.

The US tourist visa application page for the embassy in Jordan states that pleasure trips are allowed.  Visiting family members counts as traveling for pleasure.

Your mother-in-law can apply.  No need to wait for any change in administration.  However, she does need to wait for the embassy to resume routine B2 processing that was suspended due to the pandemic.

Yes, she tried for the London trip a couple years ago and was denied. My husband's family have tried to visit the US (from various income levels) and have also been denied and it seems that the US has only been allowing those who have a business interest in from Jordan (my husband's best friend was allowed to the US to meet his girlfriend's parents and to look at US colleges, etc). I was surprised to see that someone's MIL was awarded a tourist visa from Jordan due to the past 5 years activity showing that the US primarily would rather reduce the amount of family members visiting the US unless they plan to do business (in other words bring money to) the US while visiting. My MIL is now retired and she would be spending a little money on clothing, perfume and food but other than that she would be spoiling her 2 year old grandson that she has never met!

After the election and after the travel restrictions pass next year hopefully she will be able to get approved without an Islamphobic president in office.

Thanks for the information everyone!

Tourist visas are not issued or refused on any sort of religious test. Thew B refusal rate by country is fundamentally unchanged since 2016.

Typically a B visa is refused under INA 214(b): insufficient ties to return home. The current POTUS has no impact on CO discretion of immigrant intent (they can outright ban a class of alien under INA 212(f), but not alter the CO's discretion) .

I can read all of the fine print on the USCIS website as well but I know there are decisions made by our president that the public are not aware of, this isn't my first time around the sun. Anyway, have a great day and thanks for the information!

Susie I wasn't referring to anything legally written in stone. Have you ever been to the embassy and got approved or denied? I am referring to the US and their Neverending greed when it comes to who they want entering their borders.

Sorry I confused anyone who haven't been through the visa process or who get confused easily. My husband is in the US and has conditions about to be removed ($680) and another $700 for his citizenship paperwork next...and yet we can't seem to hire enough people to work in USCIS to keep up with the visa requests, etc. The fees increase but the speed and effectiveness remains the same.

Have a great day everyone don't take offense or anything, just an annoyed USAF veteran annoyed at how the US doesn't take care of its own or accept anyone in that doesn't bring the US extra dollars or oil.

Paul and Mary, obviously you're just trolling but I'm a combat veteran who has obviously seen more than you could handle which is why I wrote that comment. Have a great day! Good luck to y'all!
