Hi,

I have an interview question its coming up on Thursday and I'm freaking out!

When I was 17 (juvenile) a 'friend' shoplifted and I was basically told off by a policeman and told to go home and be careful who I am friends with. I went to the police station, but wasn't arrested and it was all very informal. All I really remember is being worried about my Mum finding out. Now as I wasn't arrested, charged, warned, etc. I checked no, as I thought that was right. I got a police check from the UK and it came back clear, no caution or arrests. I called the police in the UK and they said that as there was nothing on the check then there are no arrests, etc and not to worry. However I am still freaking out.

Now I want to be honest about the incident at the interview, as I did nothing wrong but volunteered to go to the police station (my Mum always told me to go if you had nothing to hide, it wouldn't hurt you) and listened to a policeman for 20 minutes I'm scared that there may be some record I don't know about and they'll deport me.

ANY help would be appreciated.

We all probably did some stupid stuff when we were younger. I wouldnt worry about it. The incident didnt give you a record and it happened when you were under 18. Even if you do mention it, i doubt the interviewer is going to really give it much mind. But to save confusion, I dont see anyneed to bring it up.

Hi,

best advice is only answer the questions they ask, do not give any more details than need be. Give them no reason to suspect

David

wow, we have already recieved our Biometrics appointments. It is only 2 1/2 weeks away.

It seems to be moving rather quickly.

This is great.

Agreed.. you have no record and you have proof... a police clearance certificate with no record against you. Answer their questions truthfully and do not mention it unless they bring it up.

Thanks for your replies :)

My husband says to not say anything too.

With the clear police check there would be no need for the FBI to go digging into anything archived (even if its just to say I visited with the police and nothing came of it) or do they actually go that far?

Not sure how it works in the UK, but in Canada (maybe also in the U.S.) records from when you were under 18 are sealed and cannot be accessed by outside agencies (e.g. FBI) or even most internal ones.

The incident happened when you are a minor, your UK police check is clear. I wouldn't say anything at all and would consider the questions directed to you from when you were 18+.

Add to the fact that YOU didn't shoplift, your friend did.

I agree with this.

Plus...you've already been checked out by the FBI...AND you didn't shoplift.

I don't think anything would come up anyway. Good luck and relax :dancing:

I don't know if my FBI check came back yet, guess I'll find out at the interview.

My current police check is the UK PNC Subject Access Record (any records found about a person on the Police National Computer). I talked to the police in the UK and they said that the FBI name check in the UK is a check of the PNC through Scotland Yard.

Don't mind what was happened and don't say anything to your interviewer unless she/he ask you about it. ;)

I'm going to take all your advice and just answer no, if they ask me about it then I'll tell them exactly what happened and show them my PNC to show no arrests & no convictions. You've all been super helpful.

Thanks again!!!!!!! :)
