Hello everyone,

I filed for vawa in 2018 and my petition is still pending,

My abusive ex ( still legally married, going through pending) doesn't know anything about it, however she wants me deported,  and she is still sending letters to USCIS up to this day ( I found out through FOIA requests to uscis )

My question is will the officer making a decision on my case have access to the letters she is sending or not .

Thank you.

Oh dear! Don’t worry about the abuser’s letters to USCIS. I had the exact same worry but see, I was approved and so were others. Neither are you the first, nor the last person with such an issue. That’s the main reason why VAWA law was enacted, to give victims the power of independence free from their abusers influence. And immigration is just one part of that vast law.

On another note, I wasn’t aware that with FIOA, we can access letters written about us by our abusive partners/ex-partners.

I believe we should aggressively market this forum so that those in need can find an encyclopedia of relevant and correct knowledge here rather than hiring lawyers who have to be educated by us on the VAWA process!

To the pioneers of this forum; THANK YOU!

Thank you my dear. I actually have my green card now (recently approved). It’s still surreal, but I’m thankful every day.

Congrats. Could you please explain the process after your I-485 got approved?

I had mine approved 2 weeks ago. Got written approval notice this week. No green card and no welcome letter. How soon did you get green card and welcome letter?

Thank you so much. I received GC and approval letter together within 2 weeks. She approved me on the spot basically. I’ve always gotten cards and approvals together. I hope it helps.

Wow that’s awesome. Did you get welcome letter showing your right of GC holder and etc.? Just want to make sure I don’t miss any required documents.

No, app showed card in production, then approved in 24hrs and my attorney received card/notice. It’s been the same way with EAD etc, so no welcome letter. I think people receive different things and experience different things at times. I know some people wait a while to get GC card due to backlog. You’re approved, so getting card in hand is just a matter of time. No need to worry. You status is in the system and that’s all that matters. Your GC number is the same number you use to check your status.

Remember, there is a backlog of printing green cards.

Oh thank you thank you. Will patiently wait then. Do you mean that number starting with EAC....from approved I-485 is my actual green card number?

I feel that I am learning every time

Yes, depending on where it was initially filed. Mine was held in abeyance, so it’s MSC based on being filed at NBC. Your GC card will have your case # is with you A#. It looks just like your EAD card except it’s your resident card. Your approval notice is sufficient for anything you need right now because your GC number is on there. You’ll get your card soon though, so don’t stress this small part. The journey is over just focus on living and waiting on the day you get to file your citizenship. God bless and congratulations.

Hello folks,

I just got my approval notice for I-360 after 3 months since I got C31 card.

Now I suppose to file I485.

My question is, 4 years ago I applied already I485 with my spouse in that time as regular wedding couple, and we waited for interview.

Never went to that interview since we were separated. So I applied after that I360.

Do I still have pending that I485 from couple of years ago,or should I apply new one now after  I360 has been approved.

Thank you

Do you still have that receipt Number?  Enter that number in the system and see what it says.  Otherwise, just file another I-485

Yes, including missing interview notice, they can give you a print out of that notice.

One more question please. How can I connect to USCIS live agent. When i call on their helpline tel:+1-800-375-5283, i only get automated response and don’t seem to find a way to talk to anyone

Uscis  cut down a lot  of agents due to no federal founding.
