Jonnie and I are planning to have a beach wedding - probably in August (if everything goes well with the interview, that is). We'll be located in Orange County, somewhat south to LA.

I was wondering if someone else on VJ already did a beach wedding and wants to share their experiences with me. Any suggestions for beaches? What should I consider when planning? And most important: GIRLS - what did you wear???? Full bride's attire with veil, crinoline skirt and all that seems to be a little "too much" on a beach... I'd rather have it a little more casual. Or not??? Arrrggghhhh - I don't know!

Any experiences or advice is much appreciated!

Thank you,

Sandra

I'd looooooove to have a wedding on the beach or a little church on the mountains!

I'd pick a simple (not big) but still "I'm the bride and I'm the princess today" kinda dress if I had my wedding on the beach.... I'll look for one like that and post it here if I find it!

OUR COMPLETE TIMELINE

Latest steps:

10/26/2006- Consulate receives case (seriously, one month to receive the case?? BS!), and packet 3 that I sent even before they had received the case.

Someone I know had a beach wedding, everyone wore the traditional dresses and tuxes, the only rule was you had to be barefoot. The bride wore a strapless dress but with no crinoline skirt (too hot for the beach). The reception was off the beach, beautifully decorated, with a buffet full of picnic foods and picnic tables for people to sit (they had nice covers for them). They brought a sound system and just let it play CD after CD... it was so simple yet so elegant.

Thank you both! :-)

I like the barefoot rule! We must make sure to wed in the evening (or early morning) then, so the sand is not too hot. Well, so that EVERYTHING is not too hot. It'll be august and California... .

So, better early or in the evening? I tend to the letter (but not much), I just love sunsets... .

I agree with evening, you get the whole summer nights breeze by the beach, the nights are longer, the whole sunset effect, the sand will be warm but not too hot because though the sun has heated it through the day, the evening is cooling it off... dang i wish i had a beach wedding! lol

We got married on the beach at sunset in Florida, barefoot and it was beautiful. We did it on the beach in front of the hotel we were staying at - and no, you can't reserve the beach! But by that time of day everyone else had gone indoors to have dinner.

I think if you want arches and tikki candles etc you have to have the wedding quite a bit before sunset so that the organizers can clear everything away and be off the beach before dark. (The local laws in Florida forbid people on the beaches at night?)

I wore a short strappy floaty cream dress and hubby wore pants and a bright green shirt.

anneelizabeth... i would LOVE to see those pics!!! :)

sandra, i think that in some areas (not sure, mind you) that you can get some type of permit from the local police to have an evening wedding with the candles, etc... my friend said she had to do that because she wanted her wedding at midnight (go figure!!!)...

it would definitely be beautiful at sunset with everyone holding candles or votives... look forward to seeing those pics! *hugs*

Our friends got married on a beach in Hawaii and she wore a cream strapless dress which came to just below the knee. It was really cute, had a clinched waist and a circular skirt. He wore a tux and their pics look beautiful! Whatever you choose, I hope it will be a great day :)

We were originally planning to have a beach wedding... we ended up nixing the idea (for one thing I arrived in the middle of winter and even in Florida the beach gets mighty cold and uninviting in December!) But I was going to get an unconventional 'gypsy' style white dress with lots of lace and a handkerchief hem.

black bettie - there's a spot on Zuma beach in malibu (a little fa north from you) that is absolutely lovely - right near point dume there is some cliffs. If you get your timing right you could do it at the same time as one of those mindblowing california sunsets. there's also a nice little restaurant nearby if you were having a dinner. I've seen lots of wedding there before (and one time a porno shoot, but never mind about that...)
