Hello everyone! I would like to ask for information or advices on how to bring my sister here in America through tourist visa. I have been in the US for 5yrs now and I haven’t gone home (Philippines) since. As of now she is in the process of getting her passport. I would really appreciate all the informations, suggestions and advices.

Thank you and God bless!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

All you can do is help her with the application. You don't do anything because it is not your application. Only she can apply. And it is based on her own merits. She must show strong ties to her country. The biggest piece of advice is for her to show why she needs to go return back home more than why she needs to come to the US.

Be warned, it is very, very difficult for young Filipinas to get visitor visas. Especially if they are single. That is because too many in the past abused visitor visas. The denial rate for the Philippines is high. So hope for the best but be prepared just in case.

Nothing is needed from you. There is no sponsoring of a tourist visa to the US. and Invitation letters do nothing to help.

Here are a couple of links to help her understand the process:

Thank you for the warm welcome! My sister is single but she has 3 kids and is living with her partner. I loaned a house that is in her name as well. Is that good enough reason for strong ties?. Also, I have read some on the website travel.state.gov that she has to be the one to apply. Get her passport, fill up DS-160 and pay the fee. Now, My husband and I would like to be the sponsor for her trip since she doesn’t really have a job for the moment since her husband is the one providing for their family. What are the documents do I have to provide for her application? And what are the requirements she needed or to provide? Thank you!

There is no such thing as sponsoring a tourist and there really aren’t any documents she needs to provide unless specifically requested. All she needs to do is answer the questions honestly, but from what info you have provided a denial is very likely. Good luck!

You can't sponsor her trip. That is not how it works. She has to be approved by her own merits, not with the help of others. There are no documents you should provide because you can't sponsor her for a tourist visa.

There is nothing wrong with you and your husband paying for her trip but be careful that it doesn't backfire. Immigration wants to see people who are able to provide for themselves. But that doesn't mean it is not possible to be successful with someone else paying for everything.

When you say sponsoring her trip, you really mean paying for things. Sponsoring has a different meaning with immigration. So you truly are not sponsoring her.

Her having a family and a house in her name helps. But, again, she is young and single (not legally married). All she can do is apply and see.

Incorrect Information about letters and supporting documents.

Even the US Embassy in Manila has put out tutorials on Youtube and it says to submit and bring anything type of documentation that will support your case.

Let me lay it on the line:  Tourist visa approval from Philippines is pretty common if you are : Wealthy or old.  If you are young it an uphill battle and more than likely you will be denied.

I have seen countless family members of my wife and her friends come to USA on Tourist Visa, and most were old.

I have seen 5 young family members apply recently and 2 of them were rejected.  Did have 3 young one get approved and the basis of the trip was to go to a Military Graduation for a relative from Philippines.  The father of the graduate is a US Citizen and he wrote letters saying he would take care of all expenses while on the trip, and they all 3 got approved.

Did it make a difference? Sure seems like it to me.

Incorrect

Relative doesn't have to be in the USA, Just had 3 young ones approved and the US Citizen lives in Philippines. He is retired Military.

Even the US Embassy in Manila says on their youtube videos to bring any documents that support your case.

Once again, there is no official requirement for a 3rd party in the US, or anywhere else in the world, to provide the applicant with any documents.

And I have seen someone apply 3 times and get denied but get approved on the 4th.

A member here reported that his mother in law who is a poor farmer got approved on the first try.

The situation you mentioned is one in a pile of many cases where no letters or documents made a difference. You showed that it is not impossible, but it is still not the norm. Like I said, There are plenty of posts right here on VJ even from the PHL where an invitation letter did nothing.

Requirements? That would dependent on each applicant.  They need to bring whatever supports their case.  This is from the US Embassy in Manila on the youtube releases.  They have alot of good information to share with applicants.

Surely you are familiar with the Tourist Visa Process

No harm taking whatever they want, very unlikely it will be looked at.

Pay the fee attend the interview and find out.

Sadly many confuse a tourist visa and an immigrant visa hence the difficulty in obtaining one.

Exactly and Thank you

Even the Consular Officers say in the Youtube video their is a good chance they will not look at your document, but they say bring whatever supports your case.

They claim the do about 1000 visa interviews per day at US Embassy in Manila, and in my opinion most are redecided before the interview.

Is she single or does she have a husband? Or are you referring to her boyfriend as a de facto husband?
