Can I work before my green card arrives? What would I need to present then?

If you arrived with a CR1 or IR1 visa, then you are already a permanent resident authorized to work.  Before your GC arrives in the mail, you can use your stamped visa as proof of your PR status.

You are an immigrant so you received the I-551 stamp in your passport (that is a temporary "green card" valid for one year) ... show them that stamp in your passport
