I am termed a March filer even though mailed ours on Feb. 26. Overnighted it to Texas, who forwarded it to CSC...grrr. Got NOA1 on 3/6, and I sat through the end of May watching other people who filed as late as March 15th get their NOA2's like on March 18th and such and such...we didn't get ours till 6/6; 6/6 was our first and only touch shown on USCIS web site, but next morning I looked on my PDA Internet app (coz my PC Internet was down due to a cut cable across the street...grrr#2) and it had "Approval Notice Sent." Needless to say, I, a male, a straight male, cried literal tears of joy and thankfulness at that!!! NVC got our case on 6/22, and sent it out to Manila on 6/26...and the waiting continues. I hated reading the new mailing location for folks in North Carolina after July 30 or so this year...it will be VSC coz it's always been closer, even closer than TSC was, much less CSC. Maybe the rest of our paperwork (AOS and such) can go through faster now that we'd be going through VSC for some of that. Anyway...that's my story so far.

To respond to some folks who got their NOA2 on June 18th, if you call the NVC, they will tell you it can take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks, and "up to 90 days" to receive approved cases. So please be patient. We got our NOA2 on 6/6. I wasn't patient and I know I bugged NVC a LOT by calling in almost daily for updates. Eventually, I just said "I'll let them do what they have to do at USCIS and NVC." Then on Tuesday, I decided to call again. When the girl hesitated after I gave my case number, I knew there might be good news. She then asked for Beneficiary Name, DOB, and such. I guess this is to confirm that I am an interested party in this case. Then she said, "Well, I have good news for you. It looks like it was sent out to the embassy in today's mail." And she gave me our case number. I had to ask her when the case was received by them, which was last Friday. So it really went through NVC really fast!! I'm gonna call the Dept. of State next Wednesday and see if the Manila Embassy has gotten our petition yet. I wouldn't expect great news in that first call, but some folks have had their stuff received by Manila in a week's time. Just be patient and find things to work on while you're waiting for your approved petitions to go through the red tape at USCIS. Once it hits DOS, it'll go faster. I've been working on my fiancee's copy of our petition and receipts and such, and on the forms of support she needs for her interview. Hope this helps somewhat.

maybe they were holding the box with your apps so they could mine on top? Sorry for the delay! That has to be the reason. :jest:

Tho I still believe by sending in our petitions we've all signed up to take part in a sick and twisted psychological experiment to develop new torture techniques.

My K-1 Timeline:

02/08/2007: Engaged on top of Table Mountain!

03/27/2007: Sent I129f to NSC

06/27/2007: NOA2!!!!!!!!!!!!

07/09/2007: Paper NOA2 in the mail

07/13/2007: NVC sent our petition to Jo'burg!!

07/27/2007: Packet 3

But you know what, if you truly love and appreciate your fiancee or wife, as I do my fiancee, it really is worth the wait, the torture, the pain of additional goodbyes, and all that goes with that. Do I wish we could be together sooner? A most definite yes. Is there anything I can do about it outside of moving to a state where VSC applies to? No. I find that prayer works the best. I started getting worried when I saw other VJers who filed weeks after us with CSC getting their NOA2's in mid-May. We hadn't gotten any touches on our paperwork since 3/9, and the three month mark was quickly approaching. I started praying to God to help to get our NOA2 approved, and harder than I'd prayed in the weeks preceeding, and the prayer was answered within a couple of days. Just like I prayed for "the one" to be shown to me in God's time, not in my own time (as I had been wanting for years before). Two days later, Jacki came into my life. Did I know she was "the one" when I first met her online? No. But it all started with a meeting, just like all the rest of our relationships did. Anyway, sorry for my side-narrative...continuing, anyway, of course on 6/6-6/7 that all changed, and rather quickly. One touch (at least the way it's reported on USCIS web site) and we were approved. And like I said before, I probably spoke to half of the PM Shift call center agents at NVC after NOA2. And the girl I spoke with at NVC on Tuesday, Polly, she was very friendly...at the end of the call, she even wished us "the best of luck to you two." That's the first time I've been impressed by anyone in this government process!

I appreciate your comments. While it is of course worth the wait, it is nonetheless quite a difficult wait, especially with a fiance in a country with such a high crime rate as South Africa. After all, that is what these forums are for. To offer support to people who are going through similarly difficult times, without feeling like we're being judged, or that our comments aren't welcome. As an athiest, I find that humor works the best. My jabs at the entire visa process are my way of dealing with an extremely stressful situation. It would be lovely if this visa process were the only stressful thing in my life right now, but as is often the case, when it rains, it pours. I strongly believe that if I need strength to deal with something, i must look within myself, and not outwardly. Often, in a situation like this i find strength and comfort by lightening the situation with a little humor. I found long ago that when you have no control over a situation, it is better to laugh than to cry.
