The entire purpose is to attempt an "October surprise" in September, and to goad the President.

credible ?Yes:

1. We have seen the president make off the cuff  statements in the past.

2. I truly believe he does not know the history of WW I, the man is definitely not a history bookworm.

3. We have seen him use similar language re John McCain.

4. The sources (plural) are not anonymous, just in unpublished. I have no way to evaluate the sources credibility or recall of course.

I don't know the sources or the complete context so it is impossible to fully understand the intent behind the statements.

I suppose now that I have stated that I believe that it is probable that the article is true, I will get the "deranged" label.  So be it.

Any updates to this? I'll just leave this here..

Journalism’s New Propaganda Tool: Using “Confirmed” to Mean its Opposite
Outlets claiming to have “confirmed” Jeffrey Goldberg’s story about Trump’s troops comments are again abusing that vital term.

I was asked whether I found the Atlantic article credible and I stated the reasons.

Greenwald article doesn't bring any new light to the topic. If the same three or four witnesses repeated the claims to other news channels and they scrutinized the comments, that does not undermine the accuracy of the reporting.

The only thing that will bring this closer to resolution is the decision of the sources to go public.

I have an open mind about this topic, I hope others can too.

Hopefully you checked that article as it goes to the credibility of Goldberg and past anonymously sourced garbage that was wrong yet "confirmed" in the same circular methodology which is counter to how things work with regard to facts and supports the idea of smearing, a tactic already deployed dozens of times since 2015 against Trump and people around him. Thankfully I learned to stop having an open mind against this logic when it tried to sell the Iraq War.

No, you have a TDS mind, and likely hope to see Trump fail.  Fortunately for America, this will not be allowed to happen, because the Goldberg tale is just that... a tale.  And debunked by several who are NOT afraid to have their names used nor their voices heard.

Enjoy the next four years, I know most Americans will.

Journalism's New Propaganda Tool: Using "Confirmed" to Mean Its Opposite

[...] news outlets have completely distorted the term "confirmation" beyond all recognition.  Indeed, they now use it to mean the exact opposite of what it actually means, thereby draping themselves in journalistic glory they have not earned and, worse, deceiving the public into believing that an unproven assertion has, in fact, been proven.  [...]

Trump's vision for America is to surround the country with walls, fences, "Go back to your country" slogan and xenophobia agenda,  pitting Americans against each other, dividing the society as deep as possible while promoting domestic terrorism, RWNJ, "very fine people" from white supremacists rallies.

It is interesting as to how blind many people are to the divisive identity politics of the Democrats.  I guess Gruber was right.
