My husband was originally scheduled for his interview on April 2nd and it got cancelled on March 19 due to Covid-19. A friend of his that applied and did his medical exam around the same time as my husband told him that he completed his interview and was told he needed to enter the US before his medical exam was no longer valid on August 6. I’m wondering whether this is true or not since we have not received any phone calls or emails regarding this and the embassy website states that they do not know when they will reinstate routine services. Does anyone know if this is true ? Are they starting to reschedule people little by little ?

Yes, Issued visas expiration dates are limited the validity of the medical exam which is normally 6 months from the date  the exam is completed.  Recently, authorization was given to extend the validity of some medical exams by 1 month.  But the friend was correct.  An immigrant visa holder usually must enter the US prior to 6 months after the medical exam was done.  In some cases (such as my wife), the expiration date is less than 6 months after the medical exam.

HI, Just wanted to share my experience.

I had my visa interview originally March-17, and was cancelled due to COVID. I got a Call from the embassy to reschedule my interview on Aug-27.

I got approved. However, Medical Exams only last for up to 6 months. I was due to enter the US before Sep-4(Final day for the exam to expire). They gave me one month extension.

Note* My Wife is a USC. It seems they are only processing IR1/CR1.

I received an update today and was advised that they requested that his medical exam be extended so that he can travel in time but I have not been advised when he will be scheduled for an appointment yet. According to travel.state.gov, Immigrant visas are limited to the validity of the medical examination for a maximum of six months.  Centers for Disease Control and Prevention approved a one-month extension for medical examinations conducted between January 1, 2020, and June 30, 2020.

Hi HIICO,

When did your husband do his medical exam? I’m just trying to see if they are going off a certain timeline.

On March 13th. It seems they may be reaching out to those who are getting close to the 6 month mark.

Hi Cesar,

When they called to reschedule your interview on August 27 did they schedule your interview for that same week that you got the call from them ?

I am currently on the same boat my interview was scheduled for March 26 and got cancelled. My husbands medical exam will expire September 12th  that is the 6 months mark. but we have yet to get a call from the embassy with a new interview date.

I would recommend that you do what I did. I emailed SantoDomingoVisas@state.gov. Include both your names, your case number, the name of the clinic he had his medical exam at and explain that his medical exam is expiring this weeks. They usually respond within 24 hours.

Hi Hilico,

I wanted to update you that it seems that it is true the embassy is starting to reschedule those interviews that were cancelled whose medical exams are expiring. My husband medical exam expired September 12 which was the 6 months mark and I received the interview letter for our new interview date for September 17.

So I would be on the look out if I were you checking email, or if you get a call. I received a call first and then received the letter right after in my email.

My husband got a call yesterday but unfortunately he missed it. We haven’t gotten an email yet. Hopefully they call again on Monday.
