Nope, it's not just you, and it started quite some time ago.  Trump may be a bit more open about it, but the partisanship began way before he ever came on the scene.

True , I mean shouldnt it all be what they will do for us...the citizens?....not calling eachother names....I mean what moral standards are we setting for our kids?....blackmail and derogarory names and words? our politics should me marked SVNL on TV..God bless america

In a perfect world it should be all about what they do for the citizens they serve, in reality it is all about raising money and getting votes and remaining in power.  At least with the President we limit the number of terms they can serve, unfortunately Congress is a potential job for life.

Gotten?  I was but a child, but I can remember this happening back in the 70s.  I'm sure NB2 can chime in, since he was already a young adult when I was learning to walk.  😇🥰

Yes, it absolutely SHOULD be.  But neither party is really in the game for what they are supposed to be, serving We The People.  They are in it to get richer or more powerful, for the most part.  I'm sure there are a handful of people who are actually in there for the right reasons, but I suspect those won't last very long once they realize what a wall of corruption they are up against.  Sad.

I would only qualify that they "go" there for the right reasons.  All the rest is spot on!

I think a few do just that.  But I also believe there are far fewer going into it for the right reason (actually bettering things for all of us) than used to be back when we were younger.  Just like I don't believe Elon Musk is building electric cars to make things better for our earth.

Politics follows business. Watch the Century of the Self series on Youtube. Brand marketing and the personalizing of products has been happening for the last century. Identity politics really pushed it in a different direction, but very similar things about these "features" remain. 

 

To use a game industry analogy, companies used to sell their products on their quality, would never RC products that had severe design flaws. Now they've dumped so much out of QA/QC and put so much more into marketing RC products that paying users effectively become the QA/QC. To shorten that, more is spent to market increasingly worse products, or increasingly offset less and less spending on product development. In politics, it's the same way, the parties have been getting worse, more corrupt, and so they spend increasing amounts of money to "brand" market personalities and psychologically tie themselves to that person to divert that person away from their job as a voter, to be the "boss" of that politician, and turn them into a "fan", which inverts the role. They're at a breaking point where they have basically nothing left to stem populist movements on the left and right but foment chaos, in hopes that people come crawling back to their little corrupt establishment. You can see all the effort they put into diverting people's attention from them, make it about things that redirect people toward each other and make them "fans" of the people creating and kindling these messes.

The 4 year strategy of cut and paste. If Trump was really as bad as all the negativity and apocalyptic language used he'd not be anywhere in the realm of standing a chance. Just puts it in perspective how meaningful the media's efforts are, just how handcuffed they are in that they can't wrap their stupid heads around any other strategies.

Well, considering that Trump is simply Putin's puppet (a story spouted by all my leftist friends every chance they get), it's clear that the Russians will be invading our election again.
