Hi guys,

I entered the USA on a K1 (fiance) visa in February and am currently going through AOS for a green card. Last week I finally received my employment authorization, which I needed to be able to get my drivers license in Georgia. Today I went to the Dept of Drivers Services fully expecting to finally be allowed to get my license, but their system spit out that my documents needed to be submitted for secondary verification at DHS. From the reaction of the people at DDS I assume that this is not something that usually happens, they seemed a bit surprised and even went back and reentered all my information twice thinking they had made a mistake. I'm therefore wondering what happened, hoping that someone here might be able to shed some light on this.

I had to give my phone number and am supposed to be getting a call in 7-10 workdays about this from DHS. That is all the information I was given. I just hope there is no typo in my phone number. I'm a bit uneasy about not having anyone to contact in case I hear nothing in the coming weeks.

Have other people here experienced this? Can you tell me if this is a routine procedure or if it means something in my documents was flagged as a potential risk or something?

Thank you for your help!

So nothing to worry about then? Thank you, thats a relief!

it does happen as with office staff still low and some working from home ,   data does not get entered (which should have been put in to generate the EAD card)

hope all goes well but you will discover that immigration is not the only messed up system here in the US

Update, in case someone else runs into the same issue:

Apparently what had to be done was a SAVE verification. I should have received a piece of paper with a phone number to call after 3-5 business days to find out if I had been approved and could go back. I didn't receive that paper from the DDS, so I had no idea about all this. After sitting around waiting for two weeks I went back to ask for an update. I was turned away again for still not being approved, but luckily the lady asked if I had called the number I was given. She didn't believe me that I got no number, of course, but gave it to me then. I went outside to the car and called the number immediately, and after a few attempts and an hour and a half on hold I finally got to speak to someone who took five seconds to approve me. I went back inside and their system was updated and I could finally get my drivers license right then and there.

I guess the take home message is: If this happens to you at the DDS in Georgia, and they send you away and say to just wait for a call, ask them to give you a copy of the paper they just filled out, It explains the process and contains the phone number you need to call. If they had handed me a copy as they should, all this confusion would never have happened. So try to get a copy if you can.
