Hello everyone, I am new here and I have a question:) I am in the US right now and I am here on an ESTA. Me and my boyfriend spontaneously decided to get married on Sunday. I would like to stay in the US and not leave the country. I know that I am not allowed to work or leave the country. Is it correct that I can send in the i130 and adjustment of status? Do I need someone to help me to do this? Is Rapidvisa a good option?

Thanks so much for your help!!!!

Welcome to Visa Journey.  I suggest you do it yourself, unless you have a complicated case.  You can follow this guide:

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Thanks a lot. So that is possible and we will just send in all the documents after the wedding?

Yes. Best to make sure it is postmarked before October 2 to avoid the fee increase. You must have the marriage certificate (the official one, not a ceremonial one) to proceed.

You will not be able to return home for many months unless you want to abandon the whole expensive process. This is often a concern for people who have loose ends to tie up back home - apartment to return to landlord, car to sell, job to quit, finances to wind up, etc.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

The "fun" has just begun.....good luck.  The immigration process DEMANDS a great deal of knowledge, planning, time, patience, and money.   Fortunately, there are a lot of people here on VJ to help and support....🙂

That is great. Thank you so much!!!

If you have any question on your AOS to Naturalization, the VJ family will help shed light on anything and everything. I didn't use a lawyer either, and I am sure there are VJ family members that when from AOS to Naturalization processes that didn't use too. It takes time to plan, patience to wait, and money to executes, try as much as possible to avoid RFIE, RFE------ these add unnecessary delays to your case. This can be avoid by including all documents and accurate fees requested for in your applications.

Welcome to the process!!!!

There are plenty of us in a similar situation - We filed in June - My husband came on a visit, got stuck due to Covid, and we decided we didn't want to deal with being apart for who knew how long.  I have read really negative reviews about Rapid Visa - Just follow the guides here, ask questions if you need.  I made color photocopies of our pictures, putting multiple pics on each page.

Thank you very much! We will try to send in everything we have. We have around 80 pictures. Is that to much?

Pictures alone are not worth much. Focus on all aspects of your life together. Have you been added to the lease and back account? How long have you known each other? How many visits did you have before this?

You need joint lease and joint bank account, joint tax filing, car insurance with both names, bills with , 401(K) with you as beneficiary if your husband is working, etc. These weight more than pictures, I have read here some people did not include pictures and were approved.

I agree, photos themselves are not worth much, and most likely would be best saved for the interview.  I would start commingling your marriage financially, etc., but don't worry you don't need to have complete integration to submit the I130/I485.  In the intervening period between filing for AOS and the interview, you can collect other items such as joint utility bills, wills, living wills, etc.  There is no definitive list, they all help.

Good Luck!

Adjustment of status is all about showing your life together joint accounts, life insurance, taxes filed together (I know doesn't apply to you yet).

So try and show your comingling life together (nothing shows that like combining your monies together).
