I don't understand this part, though. K1's are not allowed to work until they get either EAD or Green Card, which takes time... 😶

I'm a nurse. I'm not working at the moment, though, and I don't have a licence to practice nursing in the US. But even IF I did... as a K1 I wouldn't be allowed to work until I receive either the EAD or Green Card.

I think the post earlier indicates the processing of the K1 actually happening because someone may fall into one of the three categories. But I agree completely, it seems counter intuitive to do that.

@emrid364, @Wuozopo, @remotercharm: update from London embassy:

My comment to the OP that you partially quoted “Hopefully you already know the next steps and have everything you need for the medical and interview” was not suggesting that London was processing K1s, but rather a suggestion that the OP become very familiar with what London requires and what the clinic Visa Medicals requires so when the time comes they can be off and running instead of dealing with a slow NHS surgery to get the Health Care Summary print out, shots, and any special documentation of illnesses or conditions.  Police certificate is also required at London medicals,  so best to prepare and know what’s coming up instead of a future posting “My case got sent to London by the NVC. Now what?”.

Yes, you are not allowed to work until you get an EAD or green card.  But while waiting for those, you are allowed to get your credentials validated, take certification tests, and any other non-employment activities you need towards getting a license to practice your healthcare-related profession in your state.

You may also request an expedite for EAD processing on the basis of "compelling U.S. government interests".  Approval is not guaranteed, of course, but with this pandemic, this criteria may now apply to healthcare professionals.

Anyone know what the update was?

Essentially the status quo remains: "We are only able to process visas for spouses and minor children of U.S. citizens (IR-1, CR-1, IR-2 or CR-2). We are not currently able to issue or reissue any fiancé(e) (K-1) visas. This is why it is not possible for you to proceed with your visa application at this time." Must be to address some embassies now processing K1’s. Hopefully things change soon! I know Singapore have started processing them.

Does anyone know what the status is for parent visas? Are those not being processed either?

Banned category per EO.

IR-5 is almost completely banned. Some of the exemptions might apply to a select few niche IR-5 cases.

For example, a IR-5 applicant had a first marriage 30+ years ago and had child in that marriage. That child immigrated to the US as a young adult and eventually became a US citizen. In the meantime, the IR-5 applicant married (long after officially ending the first marriage) a US citizen and lived together outside the US because the US citizen had AWA-type conviction(s) and they also preferred to live outside the US at the time. Later on they decide to start process to move to the US and IR-5 is the most straightforward path. That IR-5 applicant meets the following exemption: "any alien who is the spouse of a United States citizen"

Seems like a very remote possibility that scenario would fit the case of that the person I was replying to.

Also, the scenario I mentioned is just one of few possibilities. In July, 27 IR-5 visas were issued: https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/Statistics/Immigrant-Statistics/MonthlyIVIssuances/JULY 2020 - IV Issuances by Post and Visa Class.pdf Thus, some niche cases aren't banned.
