So my husband never signed up for selective service because he was over the age of 26 when we filed for his green card. But uscis wants proof we registered for the interview. What should I do?

You can't bring proof of something that didn't happen.  They'll see his age and know he wasn't eligible - it's just included on the general list of evidence because many people need to bring it.

Call the selective service office, they will send your husband a letter of exemption since he was over the age when he came to the state.

I got the same thing and I was approved. Perhaps, they just randomly select some cases for quality control.

10/3/19: Received NOA1 by mail with 18 months extension

N-400 Timeline/ Online

9/22/20: Window opens and I sent my application online

10/1/20: Got my NOA from USCIS via mail (in which it is said that the notice date, received date, and priority date are 9/22 (the same day I submitted the application)).

5/15/21: Biometric  appointment scheduled

6/11/21: Biometrics completed

7/14/21: Interview scheduled for 8/9/2021 (however, I have moved, and even tough I had told USCIS that I moved in June 19, I still got an interview from my old address). I cancelled the interview and requested a new date.

9/8/21: New interview scheduled for 10/28/21

10/28/21: Interview day! Interviewer was super nice, not much of wait. I brought some documents, He told me that I did the favor of submitting more than enough documents online and he did not have to see any more documents and that he would recommend my case to be approved. (Also, he laughed a lot after seeing a picture of my husband and I with Rosie O'Donnell)

10/29/21: I checked on my USCIS that my oath ceremony was schedule for 11/10/21. It was really quick, actually the letter only arrived around 11/5, but they upload myUSCIS much quicker than USPS delivers the mail.

11/10/21: I became an american citizen and my journey here is over. Thank you everyone for the advice and good luck!

Applicants over 31 years of Age: If you are age 31 or older, and applying for naturalization, there is no need to get a “status information letter” from the Selective Service System. The U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Service (USCIS) Application for Naturalization Form N-400, Part 12 (44)(c)(2), only asks applicants age 26 to 31 to provide a “status information letter”, if they did not register with Selective Service. In addition, in accordance with USCIS Policy Manual - Volume 12 - Part D - Chapter 7(B), applicants for naturalization who are over age 31 are eligible for naturalization even if they knowingly and willfully failed to register (attached). This is because the applicant’s failure to register would be outside of the statutory period during which the applicant must show that he is of good moral character and disposed to the good order and happiness of the United States. Thus, your failure to register with the Selective Service System does not make you ineligible for naturalization because you are age 31 or older. Nevertheless, if you are requested to provide a status information letter, you should present this letter to the USCIS examiner handling your file. A USCIS officer's decision that you are ineligible for naturalization because you failed to register with the Selective Service System may be appealed within the USCIS. For additional information, call toll free to 1-888-655-1825. Sincerely, Donald M. Benton Director
