Update:

After filing Sept 2020, my son was interviewed Sept 17th 2021.

He passed the civics etc, but then came out with a paper asking for my greencard. I was NOT amused, considering I was naturalized a year ago.

I actually was allowed to go back in and spoke to the IO who wanted to see my naturalization cert. I went home and got it (we live 5 mins away).

She took a copy and explained the following.

Almost 10 years ago, I missed my i-751 interview (ex got the letter and didn't give it to me). Deportation proceedings were carried out against me and my son and then they were later stopped and we successfully got our 10 year green cards.

Apparently, once the green cards were issued, my lawyer at the time had to file a motion to permanently close deportation proceedings for me and my son.

Unfortunately, she filed for BOTH myself and my son on ONE motion when it should have been two.

So proceedings were terminated on my behalf, but not my son.

She told me they would get in touch.

On Nov 24th, my son received a denial on the basis the proceedings were not terminated and giving him 30 days to appeal.

I then contacted a lawyer to file a motion to terminate proceedings on my son's behalf and sent in an appeal on the grounds that a motion to terminate proceedings has been filed and will almost certainly be approved.

Will post updates.

Hi everyone.  So i resigned forum my job 6 months after applying and moved states.  The main reason was lack of daycare for my son. I'm currently a full time mom living with a relative.  Will this be an issue if I'm unemployed during my interview?  Anyone have insight on this?

No, this is NOT an issue, not anything to worry about!

Hi guys! I have a slight problem. I never got my legal name change in the mail...

We have moved right in the middle of the n 400 process.

My interview was August 26, 2021 and I was approved. Yay! BUT... as we were in the middle of moving I advised the officer right there and then hey I will still have my current address for 7 more days and then August 31st I will have a new address. He said no problem just update inside your USCIS account. Which I did. For some reason it did not work maybe because case was closed by the time they got to process it is what I suspect.

Anyway long story short oath ceremony was September 16th. It was over a video chat where the judge was on the TV screen and said you are all approved and we will mail the name change to you and give you naturalization certificate today.

Of course on the day of ceremony I was too busy waving the flag and clapping my hands, clenching my naturalization certificate haha so I did not write down the judges name or which court the judge belongs to.

From the date of the ceremony you are supposed to wait 4 to 12 weeks for name change order to be delivered by mail. I wait and noting. So I call to contact center and they say a tier 2 officer will get to you give it 30 days. So another month passes and all I get is automated email along the lines of "if you need a copy of your name change order you may request it from the court". Um ok which court? So I call around to family court like hey do you have any records, they say no, I call immigration court they say no we are not the court either, we are the sad court that put people into deportation proceedings. The lady was really nice and funny.

So I call back to try to get an info pass again or have tier 2 officer reach out, get a new service number.

I have not tried district Court or federal court yet so that's my plan for today.

Moral of the story: don't move in the middle of the process if you can help it. This is so frustrating because I notified him right there and then hey I only have my current address for 7 more days and then it's a new address. And apparently changing it inside my account did not work.

I tried filing AR 11 but the auto response was unable to process request due to case being closed. You don't say Sherlock haha.

Every time I call asking for info pass or a call back from tier 2 I wait 30 days and then it's auto generated email.

Today I'm uo at 4 am waiting to head over to the local office so I can ask the security guard at the door which court I need to go to so I can try and get a copy of a name change order.

Otherwise I cannot get the ball rolling with updating drivers license and everything else and most importantly all these things I will be needing to get a passport. What a mess.

One last hill to climb I guess. If anyone knows the name of the court which processes the legal name change that you request during n400 please let me know! When you think you've seen it all, there are many things that can still go wrong I guess. Just sharing my experience. It is very hard to get anyone to get back to you. Maybe I'm just stressed out, seems pretty straightforward to just request a copy of the record from a court but I don't know what court to contact ao I'm just going down the list calling every court there is in downtown.

Best of luck to everyone and I'll keep you posted.

Anyone still waiting for their interview to be scheduled?

I am a October applicant and got the interview letter two weeks ago. But as you know, it depends on your filed office. Have you checked the progress of other applicants in your field office? Check the link below please.

Hi Lara, I totally get it. I waited for 15 months which was the lower range of the processing time for my field office (got interview invite two weeks ago). Where is your office and how long is the estimated processing time?

Hi everyone.  I have my interview soon and had a question.

My application was based on the 5 year rule having gotten my green card through employment.

I plan on taking the following to my interview:

  • Interview notice
  • Green card, Driving license, and passports
  • Driving record showing citations and their clearance
  • Birth certificate
  • Tax transcripts

Is there anything else you would recommend?

Hi everyone, super happy to share that I passed my interview on 1/25. yeahhh!!!!!!!!

The officer was super nice and it was easy breezy.

  • He put me on oath
  • Took my greencard and ID.  Kept my greencard
  • Did civics and writing test
  • We went through my application where I updated him on my address, unemployed status, traffic tickets I forgot to mention, and associations I was once a part of.
  • Signed paperwork
  • Took oath right at his office
  • Interview took about 25 minutes
  • He walked me out to the lobby where I waited for my certificate for about an hour

I then went to the passport agency in downtown Seattle and applied for my passport.

Got it after 2 hours.

Super happy this journey is over.

Wishing everyone all the best of luck in their journey and hope it ends soon.

Goodluck!!!!

Congratulations. Glad it is over for you. Where was your office? I have my interview in Sacramento this week. Feeling a bit worried.

My wife had her test today in Seattle and less than two hours later, left with her naturalization certificate. This last step was painless, other than studying and the 16 month wait. We're so happy it's finally over. I saw a few other people leave with certificates in hand too, a real happy sight.

I had my interview today in Sacramento office. I am glat my n400 application was approved. The whole process did not take more  than 25 minutes. The oath will be done later. I cant beleive my journey is over after many years of being resident and 16-month wait for the application to be processed. Thank you everyone who was here to support.

The officer was nice and friendly. No difficult question was asked during the interview. I had many documents to show but they did not even checked my documents. It was far easier than I expected. I regret the time I spent worrying about the interview and memorizing the details of the N-400. My advice to everyone who has interview scehduled is: be prepared but take it easy.
