My wife just received her green card :)

We started the process on January 13 2018, and we had about 8 months delay (COVID and my misunderstanding caused 2 months delay at the embassy in Bangkok).

Thank you all for helping us the way during this DIY journey :)

Thank you for the info in this thread.

We also had a similar issue.  we were originally scheduled for our interview on march 24th, then covid caused the cancelation and we received a new interview on sept30. when we showed up for the interview the IO asked if we had or needed an interpreter and before my wife could finish saying she speaks English the IO said she we would need to use one.

she call the government number and they were closed from 10am to 2pm that day. then she told us our meeting was canceled. whole thing took 5 min.    after 2 months we received another notice that we were ready to interview on dec 14th ......   the notice says that we may have an interpreter available by phone however the documents online say they must be in person and sign a form in from of the IO.    I have tried calling the number to uscis but that go to a circular computer trying to be helpful but unable to answer my questions. (despite the computer telling me she can lol)

at this point I am going to book the interpreter online and hope that we get someone nice.

What are the requirements for a phone interpreter? The USCIS interview letter only said to have a phone interpreter if require. My wife only speaks spanish. We are scheduled for the Atlanta office.

The requirement is in the interview schedule letter. Phone interpreter should send you a signed letter that he/she can fluently speak English and Spanish.

That's all.

I would like to inform everyone here that we had our interview and my wife was approved for a green card. Phone interpreter was my brother (family).  Woohoo

I ask the Officer if I can use my brother and he say yes as long is not her family. He primarily used my brother for I-485 Part 8 General Eligibility and Inadmissbility Grounds.

Good luck...
