221(g) - status still refused after change of date

Hello everyone,

I had my IR1 interview on August 17th however was given a 221(g) due to the fact I was missing a W2, my medical results had not yet arrived and I also needed to provide additional evidence that I have made a sincere but ultimately fruitless attempt to get a Chinese Police Check. I was told by the consular officer to submit these documents to the email address printed on the top of the 221(g) form. I did this and two days later, August 19th, I received an email requesting I instead upload them to the CEAC site which I did immediately.

Since then, I have been tracking my status regularly, never seeing any change. Then, on Friday (August 28th) the date changed to state that it had been updated that day however the status is still saying “Refused.” I am very concerned that the further evidence I submitted was not deemed acceptable.

Essentially, all I am hoping is that someone can shed any light as to what’s happening here. Will I received an email or anything giving confirmation one way or other? As has been mentioned umpteen times on this site in recent months, uncertainty is the real killer.

Grateful for any advice you can offer

You can’t count on that update 100 percent. The person who opened your file might have forgotten to change your status. Human error. Give it a couple of days.

I don’t have anything to add to Wuozopo’s post I’m afraid. Sorry to hear that you are going through this.

Out of interest, did you submit a tax return or a tax transcript at the time of interview? I’m guessing it was a tax return which is why you were asked to produce a W-2.

Ok, thanks. I’m aware that everything related to this process is tortuously opaque but if nothing else, that is somewhat reassuring

Yes, it was a tax return although it seems there’s been a number of cases recently when people uploaded the W2 but somehow it never showed up in the embassy’s end. I thinks what happened with my case as well

W2s and medical results both are the new “”What’s up with your embassy computers?” puzzle since the embassy reopened. Adds a lot of stress, but at least you had an interview.
