Has this been updated recently?

Hoping that it just hasnt and that good things are in fact actually happening...

Unfortunately there’s been no movement with K1’s lately. Idk what’s going on but it seems like they’ve paused completely while they are continuing with CR1/IR1. My case was one of

those sent on Dec 8th but no movement since then except first Ready status. Even though the consulate’s website says they are still continuing K1 visas on a limited basis, it’s quite clear they have in fact paused processing for reasons we don’t know. I recommend you to comment on their social media

I am a IR/CR1 applicant still this is very strange that no K1 has been scheduled since then.

Have anybody contacted MTL to inquire about this long pause?

Yes its definitely strange, especially since they continue to state on their website and emails that they are processing K1 visas.

ive contacted them to no avail. They just say they’re still processing K1. I honestly don’t know what else to do. I’m so close to giving up hope

I find it quite strange that new cases were requested in December but nothing has been done with them or scheduled since. I feel like the montreal consulate is a news story at this point. 2020 was a shady year for them, the delays were accumulating before the lockdowns even started in March.

Not sure if its possible but part of me wonders this;

MTL had requested cases from NVC before lock-down and hadnt told anyone they had shipped yet?

Then all of the updates people got in December was actually them saying oh yea your case is actually already here at MTL.

My fiancée spoke to NVC and they straight-up told her that no MTL had not requested any cases and no, no cases had been sent.

Of course if anyones case that just got sent has a DHL tracking number from December than my theory is obviously not the case...

There's definitely something fishy going on. I honestly don't know what's going on but I really think all K1 applicants should get together and put pressure on them via social media and emails. It's unacceptable that the wait for an interview could potentially be one year for some people IF they start up again soon. The last K1 interview date was Dec 7th and dates have not been given since Nov 16th. It's been two months now with nothing, and my hopes for February K1 interview dates diminish day by day.

If you have any other type of social media, I strongly urge you to comment on their posts and ask about k1s. They do see it. I can only hope now that for me and everyone involved with the K1 process at Montreal that they start up again soon and catch up. Cases are going down in Quebec too so let's see if that helps them open up.

I called in December because mine was one of the cases that was sent on Dec 8th to confirm that Montreal requested those cases and they confirmed that Montreal had requested the cases. NVC has been known in the past to give different answers to different people. My case was showing "At NVC" for almost 8 months.

Someone on FB had a theory that they only requested cases in December so people would stop annoying them and asking if they're still doing K1s, just to make us think that they're actually processing them. Like I've told the poster before you, don't give up. Continue to pressure and ask about K1s on the consulate's social media posts and email them. CR1/IR1s did that when the process was paused for them in October and it seemed to work.

Hey I'll buy into that. I was regularly submitting questions to the NVC about the status of my case, maybe once a month,  after the 90 days had past and lockdown was in full effect until I gave up in Sept thinking they were back on track. Now normally I would get a response consisting of 'we will contact you when your case status changes/is mailed to MTL. We are waiting for MTL to request more cases'. However, my most recent inquiry at the end of Nov, I was corrected in my email and they provided me with my MTL case number, since I had been using my USCIS receipt number the whole time, followed by 'you will be notified when your case is mailed'. I had never been given this MTL case number before in any correspondence, would I have never received it until the fateful Dec 8th notification otherwise? Don't they only create the MTL number once it's been accepted into MTL? Of course back then, any news felt like an improvement so I didn't question it any further and proceeded to complete a DS160 with it.

Now I'm wondering when my case actually did arrive in MTL...

Guess my detective training was worth something... :D

I take it you never got a DHL tracking number?

Nor did you get an "in-transit" notification?

We called NVC back in May/June once our NOA2 got there and they gave us our MTL number...

The MTL just means that you are going to the Montreal embassy for your intereview i think...

Also; your timeline confirms my belief that they dont go in chronological order... altho your NOA2 was before ours i guess...

In any case MTL is being beyond ridiculous...

you are correct. That’s what the MTL means. When I called Nvc when my case was in transit they just said that MTL requests a specific number of cases and they send them in no particular order. It’s quite frustrating but I’m really lucky and thankful that my case was able to get to mtl.

So the case number is actually assigned by NVC not Montreal afaik. You can actually call NVC when your case is at NVC to get your case number and then you can keep tracking the status. They can create your case number before Montreal accepts the case.

montreal is currently looking at an almost one year backlog for K1 interviews if they don’t start requesting these cases soon. It’s ridiculous

My NOA2 was in April, didn't begin sending inquiries until July, and I've sent maybe 4 inquiries in total asking about further information for what I should expect, something to track my case on CEAC, anything to fill out, anything I could think of at the time. It wasn't until my 4th inquiry at the end of November where I was actually given my case number for MTL. No other notifications after NOA2. Then I got the Dec 8 notification that my case has been shipped, where I could actually track the status, saw the In Transit, and first Ready on Dec 16th. My case has been sitting there ever since. I didn't have any DHL number for the In Transit portion of its journey.

We called the NVC yesterday and were told that Montreal hadn't accepted any new cases since March which conflicts with some of the other information out there. Either way, I submitted a congressional inquiry through my local Rep and will share any information that comes from that.

All the best!

See that’s what’s odd. My case literally moved to “in transit” on December 8th and changed to Ready status on December 16th. I tried the DHL hack too and it showed that there were three packages from NVC on the way to Montreal on the 8th

Definitely let us know what’s going on and if you’re on Facebook, join the groups Montreal K1 Applicants and Canadian Spousal and Fiancé Group.
