I am wandering if anybody would be aware of if it is possible to travel to Canada with an expired Green card? I know I can't travel to Canada right now, but I just want to know since I have a very good friend in Canada who I planned to visit early this year. But you know then Canada closed its border, and they only allow non-discretionary travel now (which surely doesn't include visiting a friend). I don't think they will reopen anytime soon before my greencard expires (or even not until early next year).

And can I use NEXUS or Global Entry if I have an expired Green card? (Not sure if anybody have read about this)

You have the 18 month extension, You should be able to travel just like you had an unexpired card. unless your global entry expired I don't see a problem there also. The date on the card means little if you have your I-797 with you.

I woke up to an email from USCIS saying they have taken action on my case. Went to see and it says:

As of October 16, 2020, all of the fingerprints relating to your Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, Receipt Number LINxxxxxxxx, have been applied to your case.

Does this mean I don’t have to do the fingerprint stuff again? Will I get another letter in the mail?

That's what it means. You've had Biometrics waived. yes they will send you a letter

Sure thanks! I will just try to contact Immigration Canada just to make sure, because I suppose need a visa to enter Canada, and I am exempted only because I have a green card. So I will double check to make sure they recognize as well the I-797 along with expired green card. 😁

Let me know because we are doing a cruise out of Quebec next year. I'm hoping to have a new green card for her by then but if not another six months on the extension letter. We will fly to Quebec to catch cruise too.

Sure, I posted also a post in the forum, hoping someone would have had similar experience. Especially I would need a visa, so it will be a trouble if the border agency says no.

I would recommend your wife to apply for the eTA first before the green card expires. (It is valid for 5 years, but the thing is that the system would not even allow you to submit the application if you entered the expiry date for the expired green card).  If your wife got the eTA, we can think about later if it can still be valid, at least we would be dealing with humans at that stage rather than with the machine

I read that they are still processing the application, just you won't able to travel until they open the border: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/coronavirus-covid19/visitors.html

From what I have heard so far, they say it works just fine. But you might encounter some problems with airline staff if they are not aware or clear about immigration law, and you just might need to spend your time explaining them.

I will keep you updated once I get more information.

hey y'all,

October filler here but I am posting on this thread because people already applied and they can guide me with the question. we wanted to send a check but for our luck, the bank that we deal with is getting bought by another  bank and by the end of October, they are switching everybody tio the new bank with new bank accounts and everything. due to this, we think its better to sedn money orders since we don't know if uscis will cash the checks before the bank makes the switch. would anybody tell us if we can still send money order and if there is something different in it when sending a check. thanks

You can send a money order. I would find one that you can track to see if it was cashed. Money orders or bank checks are fine.

after you replied, we tried to go to the website and see how and what to write on the money order, but it doesn't details that. the only details they provide is for the checks. we are wondering if we should write the same info as the checks (like who we are paying for and the notes by the comment section) thanks again!

i guess I should have ask all the question one time so sorry for this. anyway, we got a money order and it has an address to send it to, do we leave the address to send it to and the address of the sender free or we can fill the address of the sender and keep the address to send it to free

Me, I would leave their address out but I would fill in my address and name and " A " number.

You get nexus and global entry because you have gc so I think you can use it with your extension letter... but you can confirm with authorities
