There will be nothing more for you to do.  Sometime after arrival a social security card will be mailed to you.  It can take a couple weeks to a couple months.

Checking the box on the DS260 is the easiest way, but if you have need for a SSC soon after your arrival, you may get it faster if you go to the SSA.  Our cousins came to the US on DVs almost two years ago and they checked the box on their respective DS260s, but after four weeks, still no SSCs, so we went down to the SSA and they had their cards in about seven days.  They did tell the SSA clerk they did have the application on the DS260, and they had no issues with duplication.

Good Luck!

Honestly, it only works about 50% of the time.  When you go through processing at your point of entry, the system at POE is supposed to send a notice to the SSA system to generate a number if you have checked the box.  But it doesn't always seem to work.  If you are close to a Social Security Office where you live, take the time to go and apply in person.  My spouse got her card in less than a week.

Hi Everyone,

Through completing my DS-260 and submitting to NVC they asked if I would like a Social Security Number. I ticked yes.

Has anyone seen this actually work and if so, how? I don't want to duplicate the process.

Cheers

Dan

We marked the box on the DS-260 for my wife,  She received her Social Security Card 11 days after entry into the US.  That's how it is suppose to work.....but sometimes, it doesn't.

You can't duplicate it. Don't worry.

In my case I did check the option but I didn't get my card in the expected date, so I just went to the Social security office and ask if they have any information about what happened, and the person there just told me "I don't know why you didn't receive but here, click click click.. in 1 week you will get it." And done.

What if I don't receive my SSN card within 3 weeks of arrival?

Contact us. In the United States, you may call the telephone number listed for the Social Security office in the local telephone directory under "United States Government" or Social Security's toll-free number 1-800-772-1213.

Do note SSA offices are currently closed indefinitely for routine in-person services. Some have been able to get a special appointment during this time after calling their local SSA office.

Hi Dan, in my experience I had to virtually harass the SSA to give me an appointment but that was June (I'd been here since April). I had a job already as my company transferred me as I work in EU/UK Law. If you don't receive it within 3-4 weeks after arrival, start pushing for it. I ticked yes, I even took the proof to the SSA Office to show this wasn't my error.

However, they should just issue it, I'm probably an exception!

I ended up with a special appointment as I had a job, I also called them four times before I got the appointment too.
